The Advancement department is responsible for mobilizing financial resources to support the CCA’s strategic priorities. It develops ambitious fundraising strategies, builds and sustains long-term relationships with donors and partners, and ensures the integrity, ethical standards, and effectiveness of the institution’s philanthropic operations. The Philanthropic and Grant Writing Specialist plays a key role in securing public and private funding for the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) by preparing compelling, rigorous grant proposals and reports for government agencies, foundations, and corporate partners. The incumbent identifies funding opportunities, develops persuasive cases that demonstrate the alignment of CCA projects with funders’ priorities, and ensures that all grant-related activities reflect and support the CCA’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. The position also involves identifying prospective donors and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders. The Philanthropic and Grant Writing Specialist is responsible for: Identifying and researches funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and corporate partners at the local, national, and international levels, aligning them with institutional priorities and project needs. Develops and maintains a comprehensive grants calendar, tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, submission status, and other key milestones. Drafts and revises clear, tailored, and compelling proposals, applications, and letters of intent that highlight the CCA’s mission, impact, and relevance in relation to funders’ priorities, while respecting the institution’s curatorial voice and identity. Prepares clear and accurate supporting documentation—including budgets, timelines, and deliverables—in collaboration with project teams, as well as curatorial, communications, and operations teams. Ensures the timely submission of high-quality grant reports, including interim and final deliverables, in compliance with funder requirements. Builds and maintains strong relationships with donors, foundations, corporate partners, and CCA friends in order to connect institutional projects with current and future funding opportunities. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all grant-related activities, including proposals, submissions, deadlines, and communications, using the CCA’s CRM (Raiser’s Edge). Contributes flexibly to the broader activities of the Advancement department, including team planning, recognition and fundraising events, and cross-departmental initiatives.
