Our client is one of Australia's largest integrated energy companies, retailing electricity and gas to millions of customers including substantial commercial and industrial (C&I) portfolios. They operate diverse generation assets whilst managing complex energy portfolios spanning wholesale trading, retail operations, and large customer contracting.

The business operates in competitive C&I energy markets where pricing sophistication, portfolio optimisation, and data-driven decision-making are critical to winning and retaining customers whilst managing margin and risk.

Their C&I business serves customers ranging from small commercial sites through to major industrial operations with complex energy requirements.

They are seeking a Senior Energy Pricing & Analytics Manager to lead pricing strategy, develop analytical frameworks, and drive commercial outcomes across the C&I customer segment. This role combines pricing expertise, quantitative analytics, and commercial acumen to support sales, trading, and portfolio management objectives.

The Role

As Principal Pricing & Analytics Advisor - Commercial & Industrial Energy, you will provide specialist pricing analysis, develop analytical models, and support commercial decision-making across the C&I customer segment. This role requires deep expertise in energy markets, pricing methodologies, and the ability to translate complex analysis into commercial recommendations.

You will work closely with C&I sales teams, trading desks, portfolio managers, and risk functions to optimise pricing strategies, assess margin opportunities, and support commercial decision-making. Your analytics will directly influence contract negotiations, portfolio positioning, and competitive strategy.

This is a senior specialist role offering significant influence over commercial outcomes, operating at the intersection of pricing strategy, market analysis, and portfolio optimisation within a major integrated energy business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute pricing strategies for C&I electricity and gas contracts across customer segments
  • Provide analytical frameworks supporting pricing decisions, margin optimisation, and portfolio management
  • Design and maintain pricing models incorporating wholesale market costs, network charges, environmental costs, and risk premiums
  • Provide pricing recommendations and margin analysis supporting C&I sales negotiations and contract renewals
  • Conduct portfolio analysis assessing customer value, margin contribution, and risk exposures
  • Support trading and portfolio teams with load forecasting, hedge analysis, and portfolio optimisation insights
  • Develop competitive pricing strategies based on market analysis, competitor intelligence, and customer segmentation
  • Support special projects including pricing transformation, analytics capability building, and commercial strategy initiatives
  • Analyse market trends, regulatory changes, and policy developments impacting C&I pricing and profitability
  • Build and maintain relationships with sales, trading, risk, and commercial stakeholders
  • Present pricing strategies, portfolio insights, and commercial recommendations to senior leadership
  • Drive continuous improvement in pricing processes, analytical tools, and decision frameworks
  • Support contract structuring for complex C&I customers including load profiling, hedging strategies, and risk assessment
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualification in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, or related quantitative discipline; postgraduate qualification highly regarded
  • 7-10 years' experience in energy pricing, commercial analytics, or portfolio management roles
  • Proven track record developing pricing strategies and supporting commercial decision-making in energy markets
  • Deep understanding of National Electricity Market (NEM) and gas market operations, price formation, and cost structures
  • Strong quantitative and financial modelling skills with expertise in pricing methodologies and margin analysis
  • Experience with C&I energy customer pricing, contract structures, and commercial negotiations
  • Knowledge of network tariffs, environmental costs (LGCs, ACCUs), and wholesale market hedging
  • Proficiency with analytical tools including Excel (advanced), SQL, Python, R, or similar
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence commercial decision-makers
  • Strong commercial acumen with understanding of integrated energy business models
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities under tight commercial timeframes
