Job description
SKALAR – We are building the digital tax firm of the future
Radically simple. Fully digital. 100% client-focused.
We are rethinking tax consulting completely: simpler, faster, and more transparent for both clients and the firm's team.
Where other firms struggle with manual processes, long waiting times, and non-transparent communication, we are building a completely new experience – digital, proactive, AI-supported. With automated processes in the background and digital interfaces to clients, repetitive tasks largely run themselves.
The difference from other "digital firms": Over half of our team are software developers. You will directly shape what they build – and thus, what AI-supported tax consulting in this industry will look like at all.
We are an experienced founding team of tax advisors, digital entrepreneurs, and software developers with an exit track record of €140 million. Together with you, we want to build one of the leading firms in Germany.
The Role in a Sentence
You will verify our clients' documents and booking data, clarify discrepancies directly with them, and ensure that our tax team works on a clean data basis.
To do this, you will work hand-in-hand with our AI: you will check what it suggests, take over cases that it cannot yet handle, and develop it further with every case.
You do not need any prior tax expertise or a specific field of study for this.
Your Responsibilities
1. You are the control instance between data and automation
Our AI reads documents, matches them to bank transactions, and suggests processing. You will check these suggestions: invoice details, tax identification, period, assignment to the client.
You will confirm, correct, or reject.
You will identify where the recognition systematically goes wrong: specific document types, suppliers, foreign currencies, formats.
You will keep an eye on the interfaces and report if a connection fails or delivers the same transactions twice.
2. You take over what the AI cannot do yet
Unclear payment partners, contradictory assignments, special cases without supporting documents – anything that cannot be resolved automatically lands with you.
You will research the facts and decide them within our verification criteria; anything requiring a tax assessment will be forwarded to a licensed tax advisor.
You will document your solution in such a way that it can be automated next time.
3. You clarify with the clients
You will request missing documents – in writing, specifically, and with a deadline (independently after a short onboarding) – and follow up on open items until completion, so that the management report (BWA) is ready by the 15th.
You will clearly explain why a document is insufficient and what you need instead.
4. You make the AI better
Your corrections and the patterns you recognize will be turned into rules, prompts, and model adjustments – you will develop these together with engineering and design.
You will test what has been built on real cases and help decide what will be automated next.
Your Profile
Must-have
Enrolled at a university – the field of study is secondary. At least 15 hours per week, ideally for at least 12 months.
Analytical thinking: You recognize patterns and deviations in data, draw the right conclusions from individual cases, and can justify why something is incorrect.
Reliable quality with a high volume of cases: You work thoroughly, even when the AI is correct in most cases – it is precisely then that exceptions can easily fall through the cracks.
Interest in AI and automation: You want to understand why a system suggests something, not just what it suggests.
Confident use of Excel/Google Sheets and digital tools; eagerness to quickly learn new software.
Clear, friendly written communication in German (C1/C2) – client contact is primarily written.
Independence and commitment: Remote work only works if commitments are kept.
Interest in staying with us long-term and taking on responsibility.
Nice-to-have
Commercial understanding: You know how a business transaction proceeds from invoice to payment.
Initial exposure to accounting, bookkeeping, DATEV, or commercial processing – from internships, part-time jobs, or studies.
Experience from an environment with a high volume of data (operations, back office, support, fulfillment, payment).
Practical experience with AI tools or simple automation: prompts, formulas, filters, small scripts.
We do not expect prior experience in a tax firm or programming skills.
What We Offer
🚀 Your suggestions for improvement will be built – not filed away. Our standard: A clearly described, actionable suggestion will be live within eight working hours. This is possible because engineering, design, and the subject matter team sit at the same table with us.
🤖 You will work at the cutting edge of what automation can do in tax consulting – and push its boundaries. Access to current frontier models, modern hardware.
📚 Study-friendly scheduling. Working hours around lectures and exam periods – reduced weeks during exam time are the norm, not the exception.
🎯 A defined path after graduation. Permanent employment, followed by Team Lead or Onboarding Specialist – with criteria that we define together.
🏡 Fully remote possible. Office in Munich in the heart of the city, if you want it – it is not mandatory.
🤝 Steep learning curve with founders and the tech team. Short lines of communication, direct sparring – not an intern role in the coffee kitchen.
