Working Student Planning Law & Research (m/f/d)

The software from syte helps developers*, planners*, and investors* make complex decisions regarding real estate projects. Now we are building an AI search that finds out which planning law applies to every property in Germany: Development plan, land use plan, preservation statute – everything that stands between an idea and a project that can be approved.

As a Working Student Planning Law & Research (m/f/d), you will support the Product Team in perfecting our AI agent starting September 1, 2026. With your expertise in planning and building law, you will examine real properties and develop the professional standard by which our AI must measure itself.

Your Tasks

• Planning Law Research and Classification: You are responsible for the substantive content of the dataset. For real properties, you determine which planning law documents actually apply: Development plans, land use plans, preservation and design statutes, and whatever else is applicable in the respective municipality. This includes classification according to §§ 30, 34, or 35 BauGB (German Federal Building Code).
• Analysis and Structure: You analyze and structure existing and new property cases and find reliable evaluation rules. This work forms the basis for an evaluation framework that we will set up together.
• Documentation and Data Quality: You create a database with all new research, including sources and archived documents, so that queries can be quickly traced.
• Evaluation and Feedback into the Product: Once the dataset is robust, it becomes the measurement tool. You check AI answers against your research, classify deviations, and identify patterns rather than individual cases. What you find will be provided as concrete input to the Product Team and, in the future, to the Agentic Search Team.

• Ongoing Studies: You are studying in an advanced semester (Bachelor or Master) of Law (preferably with a focus on Public Building Law), Public Administration, Urban or Regional Planning, Geography, or Architecture, and have a current enrollment certificate.
• Experience in Building Law: Ideally, you have already gained initial practical experience in the field of building law or spatial planning – for example, through project work or internships.
• Proficiency in Handling Building Law Documents: You enjoy reading statutes, plan drawings, textual designations, and council resolutions, and can confidently classify them.
• Your Work Approach: You work in a structured and conscientious manner. Documentation is not a formality for you, but part of the work.
• Language Skills: You speak German at a native level (C1/C2) and have solid English skills (from B2).
