Working Student (m/f/d) Software Engineering

IT trainees use our platform to pass their exams. We use Claude Code and Cursor to build the platform. If you are studying computer science and know about agent-based software development not just from the hype, we should talk.

Tasks

You will develop features for our learning platform, from conception to deployment. We work with a modern stack and rely on AI-supported development.

In everyday life, this means:

• Backend development with Laravel / PHP
• Frontend development with Vue.js / TypeScript (Inertia.js, shadcn/ui)
• Occasionally working on internal tools (React, Nest.js, CLI Tools with oclif)
• Use of AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or comparable development tools

In addition:

• Regular pair programming and code reviews
• Joint system design: feature cut, architecture decisions, test strategy

You get the chance to independently contribute and implement your ideas. And you deal with what software engineering looks like in times of coding agents - not theoretically, but in the real product that hundreds of users use every day.

Qualification

We are looking for someone who:

• works independently
  you don't need constant guidance, but know when to ask (and of course you will be intensively trained)
• asks questions when something is unclear
  better to ask too often than not enough
• contributes own ideas
  not just processing tickets, but thinking along and contributing
• has an eye for detail
  "works somehow" is not enough, put yourself in the user's shoes
• critically questions
  that also means our decisions if you see a better way
• has an interest in AI-supported development
  you want to learn how modern tools change productivity

A current enrollment in a full-time study program is a prerequisite. (Working student status)

Ideally, an advanced computer science degree (from 4th/5th semester Bachelor or Master), but ultimately what you can do counts.

How to apply:

We don't need a cover letter. We want to see how you work. Send us a video (5-10 minutes, e.g. via Loom, Google Drive or YouTube as an "unlisted video")*, in which you solve one of our challenges:

Challenge 1: Quiz UI
Build a small Vue 3 + TypeScript component: an interactive quiz with multiple-choice questions. The questions come from an array, the user selects an answer, gets feedback (correct/incorrect), and at the end sees their result. Styling with Tailwind. Only the frontend for that.

Challenge 2: CLI Tool

Build a small CLI tool (Node.js/TypeScript) that queries a public API and formats and outputs the results. For example: Weather, GitHub repos, Hacker News.. choose something.

Challenge 3: Own Project

You already have something of your own that you want to show? Then take that. Show us in a video how you implement a feature or a bug fix with a coding agent.

What we want to see in the video:

• How you break down the problem before you start
• How you work with the agent.. your prompts, how you iterate, how you correct
• Whether you notice when the agent is wrong, and what you do then
• What the result looks like

The code doesn't have to be perfect. We are interested in your thought process and how you handle AI tools.

PS: In the application form, you may be asked for your cover letter and resume.. you can simply ignore and skip that. In this job software, this is actually disabled, but sometimes it is still displayed. :/
