Working Student AI & Automation (m/f/d)

Understand processes. Build solutions that actually work for SMEs.

Why this position exists

We are a small team in Neumarkt and develop IoT cloud solutions for machine and vehicle manufacturers. In parallel, we are building an automation platform with which we automate processes – for ourselves and for our customers. With AI agents, LLM integrations, and the integration of existing business systems.

The demand is greater than what we can handle on the side. That's why we are looking for someone to work specifically on this: to record existing processes, understand where the bottlenecks are, and then build a solution that works.

What we are not looking for: someone who writes concepts that no one implements. And no research projects. Our solutions must fit a medium-sized company – meaning simple enough that they continue to run without you.

Tasks

What you will do

• Record processes. You will talk to the people who go through a process every day – within our company or at the customer's site. You will document how it actually runs today (not how it's supposed to run according to the manual), where time is lost, and what should be better in the end.
• Conceive. You will decide which part can be automated, where AI brings real added value, and where a simple rule suffices. You will estimate effort and benefit and present a recommendation to the process owner – not a list of options.
• Implement, hands-on. You will build the solution yourself: AI agents based on LLM APIs, automation workflows, integration of existing systems via REST interfaces and webhooks, plus the necessary data preparation. And a script in Python or JavaScript where clicking is not enough.
• Review and handover. You will go through it with the process owner to see if the solution holds up in everyday use. You will check, document in a way that another person can continue working on it, and hand it over cleanly.

Qualifications

What you need to bring

• Fluent German. You will conduct process discussions with users and process owners, sometimes at SME customers. This doesn't work in English. Fluent means: you can discuss freely, even when it gets technically and linguistically complicated.
• At least one day per week on-site in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz. Process recording works through conversation, not through a ticket system. The remaining time you will work flexibly and remotely.
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI and initial personal experience with it. No certificate, no study focus – but you must have built something with AI yourself at least once. An agent, an LLM workflow, a chatbot on your own data, an automation script with an integrated model. We will ask about it in the interview, in detail.

In addition:

• ongoing studies – Business Informatics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Technology or Innovation Management, or something comparable. The field of study is less important to us than your work style.
• You have completed at least one thing – not just started it.
• You can empathize with an unfamiliar process and ask the right questions.
• You write in a way that others can understand.

What we like to see, but do not expect

• Practical experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or comparable agent frameworks
• Experience with RAG, vector databases, or prompt engineering beyond mere playfulness
• Basics in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and SQL
• Work with AI coding tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor

Explicitly not a requirement: n8n. We work with it, but a colleague already covers this part. If you know it, great – if not, you will learn it here in a few days.
