The Biberach University of Applied Sciences (HBC) is a university of applied sciences with thematic focuses on construction, energy, biotech, and business administration.

2,500 students study in four faculties and 16 degree programs at two different locations.

At the Biberach University of Applied Sciences, effective September 1, 2027, a

W2 Professorship "Transport Infrastructure and Major Projects, Focus on Rail"

is to be filled in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Project Management.

The faculty, with its two focuses on Civil Engineering and Construction Project Management, is the largest faculty of the university with 23 professorships and around 700 students. The position is primarily assigned to the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs of the faculty.

Professorships at the university include teaching foundational subjects, conducting English-language courses, participating in research and development projects, acquiring third-party funding in the strategic development areas of HBC, and actively participating in the self-governance tasks of the university.

Applicants must fulfill the service duties of university teachers according to § 46 LHG (State Higher Education Act).

We are looking for an individual with a university degree in engineering, who possesses proven knowledge and relevant experience in the planning and construction of infrastructure projects as well as in participation in major projects and has in-depth knowledge in the field of track construction. Experience in the areas of signaling and interlocking technology, maintenance of rail infrastructure, railway operations, and railway law are advantageous.

Applicants are expected to have interdisciplinary project experience, sound knowledge in project management and technical leadership, as well as expertise in teaching and research, and to develop these further in line with innovative progress in the subject area.

Employment Requirements

• A completed university degree in engineering, appropriate to the position,
• Pedagogical aptitude, which is generally to be demonstrated through teaching or training experience,
• Special ability for scientific work, which is generally demonstrated through the quality of a doctoral degree,
• Special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in at least five years of professional practice, of which at least three years must have been outside the academic sector.

In the case of an initial appointment to a professorship, the employment relationship will generally be initially for three years in a probationary civil servant position according to § 50 Abs. 1 LHG. With proven suitability and the continued existence of the requirements prescribed by civil service law, permanent tenure is then intended. In justified exceptional cases, direct employment in a permanent civil servant position is possible.
