Job description
Your Role
Medium-sized consulting firms all look pretty much the same in motion graphics — stock footage, a logo animation, an image film from an agency every three years. Video is rarely its own language in the industry. That's exactly where the leverage lies: those who rethink consulting in Germany must also look and feel different — in recruiting, towards clients, in every story we tell.
Vogel is one of the most successful medium-sized consulting firms in Germany. Several thousand medium-sized companies entrust us with their tax, commercial, and strategic issues. Design and content are not an appendage of a specialist department here, but are anchored at the heart of the company — and we are currently building the entire motion graphics infrastructure for it. This role exists because we want to produce video ourselves, not buy it in: in our own style, at a frequency an agency could never sustain, and at a visual level known from the best fashion houses and technology brands — and unexpected in our industry. That's precisely the appeal: proof that someone here understands what makes good image and good design.
You are a visual storyteller with a technical foundation — someone who masters camera work, lighting, and sound, and lives for beautiful visuals. You have been responsible for motion graphics from camera to post-production for three to five years — at a production house, an in-house content team of a brand with high visual demands, a creative agency, or as a freelancer with your own work. You are transitioning from a client and project logic where you implement external specifications and move on to the next client after the final cut — and now want to build your own video pipeline from scratch, with a visual language that carries your signature, and formats that endure. At Vogel, you will find structures that support you — established clients, long experience, strong growth basis — and a content culture in development that you will help shape from the very beginning.
You will work in Munich as part of the Brand, Content & Demand team and report to the Brand, Content & Demand Lead. Your team comes from the design, marketing, and agency world — people who know what good content and good design are, and who challenge you in your work rather than managing you. You will be responsible for all of Vogel's motion graphics formats — from idea to post-production — from weekly social clips to recruiting and client formats to documentaries. Together with the team and Moritz Vogel, you will shape the brand's visual style: How does the Vogel brand strategy translate into motion graphics? The natural progression leads to a senior role such as Lead Video with your own small team within 24 to 36 months.
Your Responsibilities
Formats from Idea to Post-Production
Take responsibility for the entire production process in your own hands — concept and storyboard, camera work and lighting on set, editing, color grading, and sound design in post. From the image in your head to the finished export.
Manage a camera assistant or a small team that assists you for larger shoots, if necessary.
Maintain the ongoing cadence — weekly social media clips and four to eight shoots per month, at least six client documentaries per year. Formats that recur but never look arbitrary.
Shoot the major pieces: recruiting and client formats, talk formats for YouTube and their adaptation as podcasts, as well as documentaries that show who is behind the companies we advise. Substance, not off-the-shelf image films.
The Video Pipeline and the Brand's Visual Style
Build the video content pipeline from scratch — production workflow, reusable format templates, asset and raw material management, export standards. The full production runs from the first weeks; what matures over time is workflow, pace, and repeatability, not quantity.
Actively shape the visual style of Vogel's motion graphics — image look, editing rhythm, color palette, sound. You translate the Vogel brand strategy into motion graphics and make it a distinctive signature at a level no one expects in the consulting industry.
Take responsibility for the professional equipment provided to you — camera, lighting, and sound stack. You decide what you need and get the most out of the setup.
Event Utilization and Collaboration in the Content Team
Transform live formats into digital content — document our events (webinars, town halls, employee events, starting in 2027 the Aalen Mittelstand Conference) and turn every event into reusable formats.
Work closely with the Editorial & Community Associate and the Junior Content Creator — motion graphics is part of a larger content machine, not a solo silo.
Regularly align the visual style with the Brand, Content & Demand Lead and Moritz Vogel — fast iteration, creative freedom, joint format roadmap.
Your Prospects
What you will have delivered after 6 months:
The full production cadence is running — weekly social clips, four to eight shoots per month, the first client documentaries shot and edited. This is running from the first weeks, not after a long ramp-up phase.
You have delivered several finished formats that are visibly of high quality — employer branding, client portraits, event utilization — and the first version of your production workflow is in place.
Your camera, lighting, and sound stack is set up, and you have produced the first talk formats and adapted them for YouTube and as podcasts.
What you will have delivered after 12 months:
The video pipeline is robust — the weekly cadence and four to eight shoots per month are running reliably, at least six client documentaries per year are produced, and event utilization is established.
Your visual signature is clearly recognizable in Vogel's motion graphics — at a level that one wouldn't attribute to a consultancy, aligned with the team and Moritz Vogel.
You have conceptually designed the Aalen Mittelstand Conference 2027 from a motion graphics perspective — from shooting planning to the transformation of live formats into digital content.
What you will have delivered after 24 months:
Vogel motion graphics has a visible, distinctive visual language with a reputation in the creative and video scene — a name that filmmakers know. Videos that are shared because they are good, not because they are from us.
The documentary and talk formats about clients are running as recurring series.
You are a candidate for the next level — a lead role with your own motion graphics architecture.
Where the position is developing towards:
The next step is a senior role such as Lead Video (IC career) — this requires an independently built pipeline and a visible Vogel visual language, not additional years of experience. Through further responsibility, the path opens up along our career framework, potentially with your own small production team or a network of external service providers under your creative leadership.
What You Bring
Experience & Track Record
You have been end-to-end responsible for motion graphics for three to five years — at a production house, an in-house content team of a brand with high visual demands, a creative or film agency, or as a freelancer.
You master camera work, lighting, and sound on set as well as post-production — editing, color grading, sound design. Both within one person, not delegated in a division of labor.
You show us a few strong visual work samples — regardless of content: music video, documentary, social clips, podcast, event film. No polished showreel needed, but the visuals must be right. We are measured by this, and we measure you by it.
Profiles that don't fit the above criteria but bring genuine visual storytelling skills and post-production depth are explicitly invited — we evaluate based on contribution, not label. The stated range calibrates to the primary profile. Those with a different background start at a different market price and converge after twelve months of proven performance to the role level — the logic behind this is in our compensation principles.
Skills & Work Style
You have visual taste — you intuitively recognize when a shot, an edit, or a grade works and when it falters, without anyone telling you the rule.
You are proficient with your post-production stack — Premiere or DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, basics in sound design — and work cleanly and organized with raw material.
You use AI as a natural tool — for research and mood boards, script and storyboard drafts, transcription and subtitles, rough cuts, and asset organization. Repetitive tasks are an incentive for automation, not a fate.
You iterate independently and quickly — you come to the first meeting with a visual idea, rather than waiting for a brief, and shoot lean rather than with a large apparatus.
Mindset & Personality
You have the ambition to set the highest standard in everything you deliver — not because someone is checking, but because mediocrity personally bothers you.
You have style and taste — not just in visuals, but in everything you do. You recognize what has class and what just looks expensive.
You measure yourself against the best — against brands and studios that set visual benchmarks, not against what is common in the consulting industry.
You have the humility to learn from practitioners. The tax advisor and the entrepreneur in front of your camera know things about their world that are not in any storyboard — the best images emerge when you listen.
What You Won't Find With Us
No client-agency mode where you brief agencies and approve results. We produce ourselves — camera, editing, color, and sound in your hands. You are a visual storyteller, not an account manager.
No high-gloss agency workflow with a large crew apparatus and months-long lead times. We iterate in short cycles and shoot lean — with an assistant for larger productions, but always with the aim of fine-tuning the details ourselves.
No pure editing suite without a camera — and no pure camera without post. You are responsible for the entire process. Those who only want half the craft are in the wrong place here.
No corporate video according to an approval matrix. You will receive creative freedom and space for visual experiments — and you will be responsible for ensuring that every format works. Those who only want to process approved briefs are not right here.
No career advancement through personnel span. You grow through the depth of your craft and the visibility of your visual language, not through ever more direct reports.
FAQ
1. What is Vogel — and where do you work?
Vogel is one of Germany's leading medium-sized consultancies — a family business since 1959, from Aalen — and is building the leading consulting platform for the Mittelstand from it. We are growing at several locations: in Aalen/Ostwürttemberg as our established headquarters and in Munich as a new hub. We are looking for people across all functions at both locations — from tax consulting to management consulting to the strategic teams building the platform.
2. How should the salary bands be understood?
Intentionally broad — and stated at each point. We differentiate based on track record and market value, not on degree: scarce, highly sought-after profiles at the upper end, less scarce ones at the lower end. We calibrate exclusively on the market — two people with similar experience can earn different amounts with us.
3. How much — and how — do people work at Vogel?
We measure by what you achieve, not by hours. However, it's also true: those looking for 9-to-5 are not our primary target. We are looking for people who work intensively on their own initiative because the tasks are worth it. How you manage your time is largely up to you. What we share: we work together in person — culture, sparring, and the best ideas arise from daily proximity. We are not a remote company and do not have extensive home office policies; individual remote days are not a problem.
4. How does the application process work?
Lean, fast, transparent — and tiered by profile. For entry-level roles (internship, working student, career entry), two interviews and a short work sample are usually sufficient; experienced roles are a bit more extensive. For selected senior roles, we are considering incorporating a joint work day in the future, so that both sides get to know each other better. Always: scheduled appointments, quick decisions, substantial feedback — regardless of the outcome.
5. How does variable compensation work?
Tied to performance quarterly, evaluated qualitatively. The scale increases with the level: up to 20% Associate, 27.5% Manager, 35% Senior Manager, 42.5% Director, 50% VP. The expected value for good performance — you meet the requirements, set your own accents, pass the keeper test — is around 50% of the maximum; the maximum bonus is not the norm. The focus is on a holistic assessment by your manager: ownership, quality, learning curve, collaboration, impact.
6. How do I develop — what career paths are there?
Two active paths: Mastery (technical depth, expert career) and Pioneer (leadership, management). You choose your direction after onboarding, usually in years 1-3. Career entry is not a separate path, but the early part of the same track — from working student or intern to Associate, for the best without a new application process.
7. Team, Culture, Vacation?
A joint lunch is an open daily offer — not mandatory; whoever wants to join can, everyone can eat at any time. In addition, dinners, social events, and offsites at regular intervals — not as a mandatory program, but because a good team also shares time outside of work. Benefits: thoughtful and substantial, not symbolic. Vacation: 28 days.
8. I know someone — is there a referral bonus?
Yes — €2,500 for every successfully filled position (no internships). A short context is enough: who you are thinking of, for which role, why. It doesn't have to be perfect, but substantial.
