Have you (almost) completed your VeVa GROP training level 2? Are you naturally curious and observant? But do you also take initiative and are you a go-getter? Then a job as a Soldier Scout/Driver in Cavalry Reconnaissance is perfect for you.

What you will do

Soldiers of the Cavalry have traditionally been called hussars. As a Soldier Scout/Driver, you will gather intelligence on the strength, location, and plans of the enemy. You are the eyes and ears of the commander. The information you collect determines the unit's actions. In a team of three, you will use (un)armored vehicles or go on foot to search for personnel, units, command posts, and logistical installations. You will also reconnoiter bridges, specific areas, and routes that are often deep within enemy territory. You may also be deployed to protect the front and flanks of your brigade and search for enemy scouts. Reconnaissance units are also deployed for guard duties both abroad and in the Netherlands. As the driver of the (armored) vehicle, you are responsible for maintenance and camouflage. You are also capable of operating an anti-tank weapon and the onboard weapon.

Please note: There are multiple start dates throughout the year. The start date for which you are eligible will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the Psychological Examination, the Medical Examination, and the Security Investigation. As soon as all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and confirmed with you.

Where you will work

You will work at a unit of the 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot, 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte, or at the Joint Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition & Reconnaissance Command (JISTARC) of the Operational Support Command Land (OOCL).

After enlistment, you will first complete the Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Oirschot or Assen. After completion, you will follow the driving course at the Training and Education Center Driving in Oirschot. After passing this driving course, you will follow the 12-week function-oriented reconnaissance training at the Training and Education Center Maneuver in Amersfoort. Any training for your individual specialization will be completed later while you are stationed with the unit.

As a Soldier, you will participate in various exercises. In addition, you must take into account that, like all Soldiers, you may be deployed abroad.

Your starting salary depends on your age, educational level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow. In addition to your salary, as a soldier, you will receive various structural and incidental allowances. The salaries listed on werkenbijdefensie.nl already include the VEB allowance. More info

With a full-time employment contract, you are entitled to 23-30 vacation days per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? You can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.

Your profile We train you Your career

As a Soldier Scout / Driver, your initial role lasts for 3 years. During these three years, you will put everything you have learned into practice and gain experience. You will be assigned a specialization and will become proficient in it.

After 3 years, you can become a Corporal Gunner, depending on your performance and ambition. You will then receive more responsibilities and further develop your specialization, for example as a MEDIC. In the absence of the vehicle commander, you will be responsible for the Fennek.

You can also apply to become a non-commissioned officer in cavalry reconnaissance or another branch of service, provided you have VMBO TL/GL education.
