Have you (almost) completed your VeVa GROP training at level 2? And are you now looking for a position within the Ministry of Defence that aligns with it? Do you want to keep Dutch airspace safe from the ground? Then the Defence Ground-Based Air Defence Command (DGLC) is for you. United on the ground, decisive in the air: that is our motto. And for good reason. Because as an air defender, you have the task of detecting threats from the air from the ground and protecting people and areas against these attacks. For example, against attacks by missiles, (un)manned aircraft and helicopters, including armament. We do this with PATRIOT, AMRAAM, and STINGER weapon systems. Can you handle this important task?

What you will do

United on the ground, decisive in the air: that is our motto. And for good reason. Because as an Air Defence Soldier, you have the task of detecting threats from the air from the ground and protecting people and areas against these attacks.

To keep the air safe, we use advanced systems. As an air defender, you will work with them. It is important in this role that you are a team player. Good cooperation is vital in this work. Everything revolves around teamwork for us.

This way you can choose the role that really suits you! Of course, we want to tell you what these roles are:

• Short-range weapon system: Stinger (Army roles) - The Stinger weapon system is for short range and can be fired from the shoulder or from the Stinger weapon platform Fennek. The gunner, driver, and squad leader together form the Stinger squad
• Medium-range weapon system: AMRAAM (Army roles) - The AMRAAM is for medium range and is fired by a launcher with 6 AMRAAM missiles. The launch crew is responsible for preparing the launcher for firing, such as loading the missiles, reloading, and maintenance. The fire control crew is responsible for engaging the targets.
• Long-range weapon system: PATRIOT (Air Force roles) - The PATRIOT weapon system can engage targets at long range, e.g., ballistic missiles and aircraft. The DGLC has launchers with which various types of Patriot missiles can be fired. As with the AMRAAM weapon system, the PATRIOT launch crew is responsible for preparing the launcher for firing, such as loading the missiles, reloading, and maintenance. The fire control crew is responsible for engaging the targets.

Please note: There are multiple call-up dates (start dates) per year. The call-up date for which you are eligible will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the outcome of the psychological assessment, the medical examination, and the security screening. Once all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and agreed with you.

Where you will work

You will work in a unique unit. Because the DGLC is the only unit within the Ministry of Defence that fulfills the task of ground-based air defence. It is also special that both Army and Air Force soldiers work with us. You may also be deployed to guard the airspace elsewhere within NATO.

After entering service, you will first follow the Basic Training of the Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Oirschot or Assen. After completion, you will start with the job-specific training. If you do not yet have a driver's license, you will additionally follow the driving training at the Driving Training and Education Centre in Oirschot. The training takes approximately 10 months in total.

As a soldier, you will participate in various exercises. Additionally, you must take into account that, like any soldier, you may be deployed abroad.

Your starting salary depends on your age, level of education, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow. In addition to your salary, as a soldier, you will receive various structural and incidental allowances. The VEB allowance is already included in the salaries listed on werkenbijdefensie.nl. During your period of service (including your initial training), you will build up an annual (gross) engagement premium/bonus in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your period of service, unless you wish to receive an advance payment in the meantime.

With a full-time contract, you are entitled to 23-30 days of leave per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.
