What you will do

The Engineers can be seen as a large construction company for the Army's civil engineers. The Engineers are also called the armed forces' construction company. An engineer unit has multiple tasks. For example, it can lay and clear mines, construct and demolish bridges, roads, and airfields, and build shelters, observation posts, and combat positions. The Engineers primarily focus on delaying the advancing enemy and neutralizing the work of the enemy Engineers. Additionally, the Engineers perform decontamination tasks in the area of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) substances.

As a Combat Support Engineer (CSE), you will be involved in building things in the field for your own units and destroying things belonging to enemy units. For example, you build bridges, but you also blow them up. You lay mines and clear enemy mines. Furthermore, you will be involved in defensive works, for example, by digging tank ditches or creating holes in roads with explosives. During deployments, you will also contribute to construction work, such as setting up a base camp and repairing schools, bridges, etc. Naturally, you will also fulfill other military tasks such as material maintenance and participation in camouflage and security.

Note: There are multiple commencement dates (start dates) per year. The commencement date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the outcome of the Psychological Examination, the Medical Examination, and the Security Investigation. As soon as all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and finalized with you.

Where you will work

You will work at an Engineer Battalion of the 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot or the 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte.

After joining, you will first complete the Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Assen or Oirschot. After completion, you will start the specialized training at the Engineer Training and Education Centre in Vught and choose one of the following directions: search (finding explosives), laying explosives, counter mobility (to delay the opponent), or scout (advanced search teams). Your training will last approximately 10 months in total.

As a Soldier, you will participate in various exercises. Additionally, you must take into account that, like every Soldier, you may be deployed.

Your starting salary depends on your age, educational level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will grow with you. During your service obligation (including your initial training), you will build up an annual (gross) appointment premium/bonus - in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your service obligation, unless you wish to receive an advance payment in the meantime.

With a full-time employment contract, you are entitled to 23-30 vacation days per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.
