Introductory text

Have you (almost) completed your VeVa training O&V level 2? When you think of construction, you might not immediately think of the Defense organization. Yet, you can work with us in the Engineers: a military construction company of the Royal Netherlands Army, specialized in combat support and construction. As a Soldier Construction Engineer, you will use installation, electrical, and construction techniques and work in a close-knit and expert team of specialists.

What you will do

You can see the Engineers as a large contractor for the Army's civil engineers and are also called the armed forces' construction company. An Engineer unit has multiple tasks. For example, it can lay and clear mines, build and destroy bridges, roads, and airfields, and build shelters, observation posts, and combat positions. The Engineers focus primarily on delaying the advancing enemy and undoing the work of the enemy Engineers. In addition, the Engineers perform decontamination activities in the area of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) substances.

You will work with the most diverse military constructions and objects. Think of bridges, airfields, shelters, observation posts, and even entire camps. For this, you will use various (small) tools, but also bridge-laying equipment, construction and excavation machinery, bulldozers, and cranes. With your broad technical knowledge and improvisation skills, you can handle almost any job and you will also be an advisor to your supervisor (commander). On a 'normal' workday, you won't just be building. During weekdays, you will also maintain equipment and tools and exercise regularly.

Note: There are multiple intake moments (start dates) throughout the year. The intake date for which you are eligible will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the Psychological Assessment, the Medical Examination, and the Security Investigation. As soon as all parts of the application process have been positively completed, the start date will be discussed and confirmed with you.

Where you will work

You will work at an Engineer Battalion of the 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot or the 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte.

After enlistment, you will first complete the Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Assen or Oirschot. After completion, you will start the vocational training at the Engineer Training and Education Center in Vught and choose one of the following specializations: search (searching for explosives), laying explosives, counter-mobility (to slow down the opponent), or scout (advanced search teams). Your training will last approximately 10 months in total.

As a Military personnel, you will participate in various exercises. In addition, you must take into account that, like all Military personnel, you may be deployed abroad.

Your starting salary depends on your age, educational level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow. In addition to your salary, as a military personnel, you will also receive various structural and incidental allowances. During your period of service (including your initial training), you will accrue an annual (gross) appointment premium/bonus – in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your service, unless you wish to receive an advance payment in the meantime.

With a full-time employment contract, you are entitled to 23-30 vacation days per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.
