Job description

Introductory text

Have you (almost) completed your VeVa training at MBO level 2? And do you want a job as a driver, but then on a very special 55-ton armored tracked vehicle? Then a job as a Soldier (Hussar) Cavalry Driver Leopard tank in a Dutch tank unit in Germany is definitely for you!

What you will do

Soldiers of the Cavalry have traditionally also been called hussars. As a Leopard2A6 driver, you will work in a team with the tank commander, the gunner, and the loader. Your task consists of operating the (weapon) system and performing general assisting tasks as instructed. In short, it amounts to preparing the vehicle for deployment as instructed by the commander, ensuring observation, safely moving the vehicle under tactical and non-tactical conditions, temporarily disabling the vehicle, performing maintenance, and managing the associated equipment. In short, a responsible and versatile task!

With your team, you are part of a German Armored Battalion, which in turn falls under a Mechanized Brigade (Mechbrig); this carries out combat operations in all types of operations and is specifically equipped for land operations. Additionally, the unit can be placed under command in a Taskforce or a Battalion Task Group.

The objective of the Dutch contribution to the German Armored Battalion is to maintain knowledge of the operations of tank units from battalion level down to the level of a single tank.

Upon commencement of the function (after completing the Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army and specialized training), you must possess a civilian driver's license B. If you do not have this, Defensie will help you obtain the license and cover the costs. However, you are responsible for obtaining the license in a timely manner.

Please note: There are multiple start dates (arrival dates) per year. The arrival date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the Psychological Examination, the Medical Examination, and the Security Investigation. As soon as all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and finalized with you.

Where you will work

You will work at the German 414 Panzerbataillon. This unit, belonging to the 43 (NL) Mechanized Brigade, is stationed with 4 companies in Lohheide, Germany. One of these companies is a Dutch unit.

After joining, you will first follow the Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Assen or Oirschot. This training lasts 4 months. After completion, you will receive specialized technical training in Germany. Your training will last approximately 10 months in total.

As a Military, you will participate in various exercises. Additionally, you must take into account that, like any Military personnel, you may be deployed on deployment.

€3,000 ~ €3,400 salary 23 ~ 30 days off per year Obtain your driver's license free of charge Location: Assen

Your starting salary depends on your age, education level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow. On top of your salary, as a military member, you will also receive various structural and incidental allowances. The salaries mentioned on werkenbijdefensie.nl already include the VEB allowance. More information

With a full-time employment contract, you are entitled to 23-30 vacation days per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.

Don't have a driver's license yet? Get it for free at Defensie! We are happy to help you move forward, and not just when it comes to your career. If you come to work for the Navy, Army, Air Force, or Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, you can therefore obtain your driver's license B at our expense.
