VeVa Junior Officer Operational Service Communications

Have you (almost) completed your VeVa Maritime Level 3 training? Does a job as an IT professional on board a navy ship interest you? As a Communications Junior Officer in the Operational Service of the Royal Netherlands Navy, you will receive training as a 'communicator': a military member responsible for radio and network communications.

This is what you will do

As a Communications Junior Officer, you will manage communication with ships, aircraft, submarines, marine units, and shore facilities. This involves using satellite connections, computer networks, and radio communications, as well as regular mail.

The Operational Service Communications ensures that all information reaches the right people on time. In addition to setting up and maintaining various types of communication, your responsibilities also include receiving, processing, and forwarding fault reports related to these connections.

In addition to operational tasks, you will also have personnel management duties. You will supervise your team members, guide them in their tasks in the Network Operation Center, on the navigation bridge, and in the Command Center, and verify the work performed. You will also support the unit's command with advice and information.

Please note: There are multiple assembly moments (start dates) throughout the year. The assembly date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the outcome of the Psychological Examination, the Medical Examination, and the security investigation. Once all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and agreed upon with you.

This is where you will work

You will work on board a navy ship or onshore. You are deployable anywhere in the world and can also be deployed to crisis areas.

Upon entering service, you will first complete the basic training, which includes initial maritime military formation. During this training, you will learn general ship tasks, such as ship maintenance, tasks related to docking ships in port, and you will train in fire and damage control. Subsequently, you will begin your first vocational training. After completion, you will complete an 8-month internship on board, carrying out assignments under supervision. Here you will gain practical experience in all onboard techniques and become acquainted with working and living on board a navy ship.

Have you successfully completed your internship? Then it's time for the second vocational training, followed by the non-commissioned officer (NCO) leadership training and an internship. Finally, you will complete the specialization training.

Your starting salary depends on your age, educational level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience grow, so will your salary. In addition to your salary, as a military member, you will also receive various structural and incidental allowances. The salaries mentioned on werkenbijdefensie.nl already include the VEB allowance. During your term of service (including your initial training), you will also accrue an annual (gross) appointment premium/bonus, in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your term of service, unless you wish to receive an advance payment.

With a full-time contract, you are entitled to 23-30 vacation days per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.
