Job description

Introductory Text

Have you (almost) completed your VeVa Mechatronics level 3 education? And are you now looking for a position within the Defense organization that aligns with it? As an Officer Cadet Weapon Systems Mechanic in the Army, you will work as a mechanic on weapon systems, but you will also be a supervisor.

What you will do

During deployment or exercises, but also at the barracks, a lot of equipment can break down. Therefore, the Army has repair units that are responsible for the maintenance and repair of wheeled and tracked vehicles, artillery, instruments, communication equipment, and power units. Our current weapon systems also contain more and more electronics.

As an Officer Cadet Weapon Systems Mechanic, you are both a mechanic and a supervisor. In a deployment area or during an exercise at home and abroad, you will deal with defects due to the intensive use of the various weapon systems. You will advise users of weapon systems on their use and maintenance. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the group equipment entrusted to you, such as vehicles with associated weapons, communication equipment, and tools. As a commander, you will also provide training for your personnel.

Please note: There are multiple start dates (enrollment dates) per year. The enrollment date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the Psychological Examination, the Medical Examination, and the Security Investigation. As soon as all parts of the application process have been positively completed, the start date will be discussed and finalized with you.

Where you will work

You will work at one of the repair units of the Royal Netherlands Army. These units are located at a large number of locations in the country.

After entering service, you will first follow the Officer Cadet Training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all basic military skills. After completion, you will start the vocational training at the Defense Training and Education Center Logistics/Technical Service in Soesterberg. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will also follow the driver training at the Driver Training and Education Center in Oirschot.

As a Soldier, you will participate in various exercises. Additionally, you must take into account that, like every Soldier, you may be deployed abroad.

€3,400 ~ €4,250 salary €6,000 bonus per year 23 ~ 30 days off per year Get your driver's license for free Location: Ermelo

Your starting salary depends on your age, education level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow. On top of your salary, as a Soldier, you will also receive various structural and incidental allowances. The salaries listed on werkenbijdefensie.nl already include the VEB allowance. More info

During your term of service (including your initial training), you will accrue an annual (gross) appointment premium/bonus in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your term of service, unless you wish to receive an advance payment in the meantime.

With a full-time employment contract, depending on your age, you are entitled to 23-30 vacation days per year. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.

Don't have a driver's license yet? Get it for free at Defense! We are happy to help you move forward, and not just when it comes to your career. If you come to work for the Navy, Army, Air Force, or Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, you can therefore obtain your B driver's license at our expense.
