Have you (almost) completed your VeVa Mechatronics level 3 training? And are you now looking for a position within the Ministry of Defence that aligns with it? As a Non-Commissioned Officer Mechanic Electronic Systems in the Army, you will work as a mechanic on everything involving electrical engineering, but you will also be in a leadership role.

What you will do

During deployments or exercises, but also at the barracks, a considerable amount of equipment can become defective. Therefore, the Army has repair units responsible for the maintenance and repair of wheeled and tracked vehicles, artillery, weapons and weapon systems, instruments, communication equipment, and generators. This also includes all electrical engineering components.

As a Non-Commissioned Officer Mechanic Electronic Systems, you will be both a mechanic and a supervisor of a group of electrical mechanics. In a deployment area, for example, you will deal with defective materials, from onboard computers to washing machines. You will also regularly participate in exercises in larger teams, both domestically and abroad. You will be responsible for the group materiel entrusted to you, such as vehicles with associated weapons, communication equipment, and tools. As a commander, you will also be responsible for training your personnel.

Please note: There are multiple start dates (entry dates) throughout the year. The entry date for which you are eligible will be determined later. This depends on, among other things, the results of the Psychological Assessment, the Medical Examination, and the Security Clearance. As soon as all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and finalized with you.

Where you will work

You will work at one of the repair units of the Royal Netherlands Army. These units are located at numerous sites across the country.

After entering service, you will first complete the Non-Commissioned Officer training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all military basic skills. Afterwards, you will follow the vocational training at the Training and Education Centre Logistics/Technical Service in Soesterberg. If you do not yet possess a driving license, you will also complete the driving training at the Training and Education Centre Driving in Oirschot.

As a Soldier, you will participate in various exercises. Additionally, you must take into account that, like every Soldier, you may be deployed abroad.

Your starting salary depends on your age, educational level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow. In addition to your salary, as a Soldier, you will receive various structural and incidental allowances. The salaries mentioned on werkenbijdefensie.nl already include the VEB allowance. More info

During your term of service (including your initial training), you will accrue an annual (gross) appointment premium/bonus in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your term of service, unless you wish to receive an advance payment in the interim.

With a full-time employment contract, you are entitled to 23-30 days of leave per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.

As a junior non-commissioned officer, you will immediately learn to lead a number of mechanics.

You are now a Sergeant First Class, within the platoon where you work, you have the most experience. You will naturally take on more responsibilities.

After a few positions, you will advance within your unit to the rank of Sergeant Major. With the knowledge you have gained, you will help the young non-commissioned officers.
