What you will do

Your work primarily consists of preparing and supporting operations for exercises and missions. In summary, the work field of a Junior Officer I&S involves collecting information that is structured and stored in various data systems. As a Junior Officer I&S, you collect information in the broadest sense of the word. You need to think about collecting, processing, and analyzing spatial, relational, and temporal aspects within an environment (both the physical environment and events taking place in this environment) that could affect the exercise or mission. This includes current weather, terrain conditions, populations in the area, and potential present armed forces. You will articulate the analysis and conclusions of all these factors and actors influencing the operation in advice to the military commander. In this role, you will act as an advisor on the (protective) measures to be taken that contribute to the successful execution of the military operation.

In addition to working as a Junior Officer I&S at a barracks, you will also participate in exercises and deployments. Because exercises and deployments are often conducted in an international context, you, as a Junior Officer I&S, will work closely with international partners of the Dutch Armed Forces. Consider your deployment during (peace) missions such as in Afghanistan or Mali.

Please note: There are multiple enlistment dates (start dates) per year. The enlistment date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the Psychological Assessment, the Medical Examination, and the Security Screening. Once all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and confirmed with you.

Where you will work

You will work at an operational unit of a brigade and battalion or at the various sub-units of the Joint ISTAR Command.

Upon commencement of employment, you will first complete the Junior Officer Training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all basic military skills. After completion, you will start the OO I&S Land Operations training at the Defence Intelligence and Security Institute (DIVI) in ‘t Harde. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will additionally complete the driver training at the Driving Training and Education Centre in Oirschot.

As a Military member, you will participate in various exercises. Furthermore, you must take into account that, like any Military member, you may be deployed abroad.

MBO-3 VeVa (all vocational fields)

As a Junior Officer Intelligence and Security (I&S), you will be part of an I&S team. That team is led by the Officer I&S, whom you will intensively support.

Your starting salary depends on your age, education level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow with you. On top of your salary, as a military member, you will also receive various structural and incidental allowances. The salaries mentioned on werkenbijdefensie.nl already include the VEB allowance. With a full-time employment contract, you are entitled to 23-30 days of leave per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.
