Have you (almost) completed your VeVa training O&V level 3? Then become a Non-Commissioned Officer Combat Engineer in the Army. As a Non-Commissioned Officer Combat Engineer, you work for the 'construction company' of the Royal Netherlands Army. You will lead a group of approximately ten soldiers. The Engineers are an indispensable link in conflicts and peacekeeping operations. The Engineers ensure that friendly forces can move freely under all circumstances, anywhere in the world if possible, and that the enemy cannot. Furthermore, the Engineers provide protection and habitability in locations where the armed forces are deployed. They do this with a lot of technical knowledge and improvisational talent. Engineers are skilled, efficient, broadly deployable, and use their technical talent to accomplish their missions.

What you will do

The Air Assault Brigade is a rapidly deployable unit that can be on location anywhere in the world within 20 days to provide assistance or combat a conflict. Helicopters guarantee the Air Assault Brigade rapid troop deployment and also ensure the transport of weapons, materiel, food, and other supplies.

You can see the Engineers as a large contracting company and the civil engineers of the Army. An engineer unit has multiple tasks. For example, it can lay and clear mines, construct and destroy bridges, roads, and airfields, and build shelters, observation posts, and combat positions. The Engineers primarily focus on slowing down the advancing enemy and undoing the work of the enemy Engineers. In addition, the Engineers perform decontamination activities in the field of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) substances.

As a Non-Commissioned Officer Combat Engineer (Force Support Engineer), you are responsible for leading your group under all circumstances, as a squad leader. As a non-commissioned officer, you are the role model as a craftsman and coach to train and prepare your group for assignments and missions all over the world. You do this in a physically challenging environment that calls upon your technical and organizational improvisational talent. As a Non-Commissioned Officer Combat Engineer, you and your group are the implementers of structural and civil engineering projects; you build roads, bridges, or even a complete military camp with all amenities. As a Non-Commissioned Officer, you are responsible for the proficiency and deployability of your personnel and you provide their training in individual military skills.

Please note: There are multiple enlistment dates (start dates) per year. The enlistment date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the Psychological Examination, the Medical Examination, and the Security Screening. As soon as all parts of the application process have been positively completed, the start date will be discussed and confirmed with you.

Where you will work

Depending on your preference and the opportunities within the organization, you will work with the Air Assault Brigade in Schaarsbergen or Assen.

After entering service, you will first follow the Non-Commissioned Officer training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all basic military skills. After completion, you will start the job-specific training at the Defence Training and Education Centre Engineers in Vught. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will also follow the driver training at the Driver Training and Education Centre in Oirschot.

As a soldier, you will participate in various exercises. Furthermore, you must take into account that you, like any soldier, can be deployed on missions.

Your starting salary depends on your age, educational level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow. In addition to your salary, you will receive various structural and incidental allowances as a soldier. The VEB allowance is already included in the salaries listed on werkenbijdefensie.nl. During your term of service (including your initial training), you will accrue an annual (gross) enlistment bonus/bonus, in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your term of service, unless you wish to receive an advance payment in the meantime.

With a full-time contract, you are entitled to 23-30 days of leave per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.
