As a Junior Officer Chemical Agents Engineer, you are the expert in the field of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear substances (abbreviated: CBRN).

What you will do

You can see the Engineers as a large construction company and the road and hydraulic engineers of the Army. The Engineers are also called the construction company of the armed forces. An Engineer unit has multiple tasks. For example, it can lay and clear mines, build and destroy bridges, roads, and airfields, and construct shelters, observation posts, and combat positions. The Engineers focus primarily on delaying the advancing enemy and neutralizing the work of the enemy Engineers. In addition, the Engineers perform decontamination operations in the field of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) substances.

As a Junior Officer Chemical Agents Engineer, you will lead a group of approximately ten soldiers who perform Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) decontamination operations. Both people, vehicles, infrastructure, and areas can be decontaminated from CBRN by CBRN decontamination units if they are CBRN-contaminated. A CBRN contamination can occur in various ways: due to an accident in a factory, a transport vehicle, or storage facility, deliberately by enemy units or terrorist organizations both in the Netherlands, an international partner country, or a deployment area, or as a result of combat operations in which conventional ammunition has damaged a factory, transport vehicle, or storage facility. This can have consequences for the movement, stay, or deployment of own/allied units.

You will ensure that your personnel carry out the operations safely and correctly. You will check work based on measurements and give additional orders when necessary. In addition, before, during, and after a deployment, you and your team will perform maintenance on CBRN decontamination equipment and vehicles.

As a Junior Officer, you are responsible for the training and readiness of your people and you provide their education and training in the field of individual military skills.

Where you will work

You will work at an Engineer unit of the Operational Support Command Land (OOCL) in Wezep, 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot, or at 43 Mechanized Brigade in Havelte.

After entering service, you will first follow the Junior Officer training at the Royal Military School in Ermelo, where you will learn all basic military skills. After completion, you will start the specialized training at the Defense Training and Education Center Engineers in Vught. If you do not yet have a driver's license, you will also follow the driver training at the Driver Training and Education Center in Oirschot.

As a Soldier, you will participate in various exercises. In addition, you must take into account that, like any Soldier, you may be deployed abroad.

Your starting salary depends on your age, educational level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow with you. During your term of service (including your initial training), you will build up an annual (gross) appointment premium/bonus in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your term of service, unless you wish to receive an advance payment in the meantime.

With a full-time employment, you are entitled to 23-30 days of leave per year, depending on your age. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.
