This is what you'll do

As a Matroos at the Operationele Dienst Verbindingen, you're the connecting link on board or ashore. You ensure that information reaches the right people on time. Together with your colleagues, you manage computer networks and fully automated communication systems of the navy. Most transmitters, receivers, and satellite communication systems are controlled remotely: from the bridge, command center, or radio center. Communication is a broad concept at our organization. In addition to satellite connections, computer networks, and radio connections, it also includes regular mail. And the messages we send can range from a personal letter or simple email to strategic information for headquarters during operations at sea.

Important note: There are multiple start dates (startdata) throughout the year. The start date you're eligible for will be determined later. This is dependent on the outcome of the Psychological Research, Medical Examination, and Safety Research. Once all parts of the application process have been completed positively, we'll discuss and finalize the start date with you.

This is where you'll work

You'll work on board or ashore at one of our naval ships that can be deployed anywhere in the world. Or you'll work in a central location on land.

After induction, you'll first follow the basic training with an initial maritime military formation. During this training, you'll learn general ship tasks, ship maintenance, and tasks related to mooring ships in the harbor, as well as training for fire and damage control. Subsequently, you'll start your first vocational training. After completion, you'll spend 8 months on board stage and perform tasks under guidance. Here, you'll gain practical experience with all techniques on board and get familiar with working and living on a naval ship. Finally, you can further develop your network management skills.

As a Military member, you'll participate in various exercises. Additionally, you should be aware that, like every Military member, you may be deployed.

Your starting salary depends on your age, education level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience grow, so will your salary. In addition to your salary, you'll receive various structural and incidental allowances as a military member. The VEB allowance is already included in the salaries listed on werkenbijdefensie.nl. During your service commitment (including initial training), you'll also build up each year a (gross) employment premium/bonus. You'll receive this at the end of your service commitment, unless you want to receive an advance payment.

With a full-service commitment, you have the right to 23-30 free days per year, depending on your age. If you have days left over, you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.
