VeVa Corporal Weapons Technician

Have you (almost) completed your VeVa Mechatronics level 2 training? You could of course start working with machines or electrical cabinets at a 'regular' technical company, but what about working in weapons technology? As a Corporal Weapons Technician, you ensure that the high-tech weapons of the Royal Netherlands Army are optimally deployable.

What you will do

The Technical Service maintains and repairs the Army's equipment, often using the latest equipment.

As a Corporal Weapons Technician, you will maintain technically advanced weapons and other equipment. Think of handguns, various rifles, a 'remote controlled' rapid-fire cannon, or optics (sights). If necessary, you will replace various parts. You will work closely with your colleagues from the Technical Service, who all maintain and repair different types of Army equipment, often using the latest equipment. Because you are a soldier as well as a technician, your tasks also include mastering your personal weapon and camouflaging and securing your own equipment.

Please note: There are multiple enlistment dates (start dates) per year. The enlistment date you are eligible for will be determined later. This depends, among other things, on the results of the Psychological Assessment, the Medical Examination, and the Security Investigation. Once all parts of the application process have been successfully completed, the start date will be discussed and finalized with you.

Where you will work

You will work at a repair unit of the Light Brigade in Oirschot, Stroe, De Peel, Wezep, or 't Harde, or at the Mechanized Brigade in Havelte.

After entering service, you will first complete the Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Oirschot or Assen. After completion, you will start with the vocational training at the Logistics Training and Education Centre in Soesterberg. If you do not yet possess a driver's license, you will additionally follow driver training at the Driving Training and Education Centre in Oirschot. The training will take approximately 10 months in total.

As a Soldier, you will participate in various exercises. Furthermore, you must take into account that, just like any Soldier, you may be deployed abroad.

Your starting salary depends on your age, education level, and experience. As your knowledge and experience increase, your salary will also grow. On top of your salary, as a soldier, you will also receive various structural and incidental allowances. The salaries mentioned on werkenbijdefensie.nl already include the VEB allowance. More info

During your service obligation (including your initial training), you will build up an annual (gross) appointment premium/bonus – in addition to your salary. This will be paid out at the end of your service obligation, unless you wish to receive an advance payment in the meantime.

With a full-time employment, depending on your age, you are entitled to 23-30 days of leave per year. Do you have days left over? Then you can carry them over to the next year under certain conditions.

As a Corporal Weapons Technician, you will perform maintenance on technically advanced weapons and other equipment.

After that, you can develop yourself through internal training and become proficient in other weapon systems.

If you are suitable, you can advance to the position of non-commissioned officer, where you will lead a team of technicians.
