Job description

Description

What do you do?

Do you want to work as a nurse and also see something of the world? As a nurse in the Navy, you work worldwide on our ships. You perform pre-diagnoses, carry out physical examinations and take care of patients. You independently treat the most common minor ailments. In addition, you also work in emergency care at critical moments. As a nurse in the Navy, you must have sea legs. Sailing on naval ships and missions to crisis areas are an integral part of your work. You must also be sporty to support the Navy medically, in various circumstances. No work experience is required for this job.

You find this completely appealing:

Working on the Belgian coast. Sailing for long periods. Providing medical support to the personnel of the Zeebrugge Naval Base. Working independently. Providing medical care to the crew.

This is what you recognize yourself in:

Being away from home, sometimes for several months, is no problem for you. You don't mind living in a group for extended periods (exercises or operations). You are flexible and therefore open to change. You can keep a cool head when necessary. You want to work outside the environment of a hospital. You have the following diploma: bachelor in nursing and specialization in intensive care and emergency.

Responsibilities

With the experience you have gained in your current position, you can take on new challenges. For example, you can later apply for a position as a nurse within an occupational medicine cell. You can also apply as a nursing instructor or for a more managerial position as a nurse within the Queen Astrid Military Hospital.
Your growth process partially depends on your own initiative, accumulated competencies and enthusiasm. You are prepared for a management position through continuing education, seminars and exercises. This results in achieving a higher rank within Defense with additional responsibilities and higher remuneration.

Qualifications

Military basic training (MBV)

This training in a training camp in Belgium lasts approximately 4 months and starts with a military initiative phase, where you work on your physical condition and learn basic military skills. This is followed by basic training for managers. During this period you are in boarding school.

Specialized professional training (GPV)

In the Competence Center of the Medical Service in Neder-Over-Heembeek, during a five-week training course, you will learn about the organization and operation of military medical support, as well as the basics of military medicine.

Internship and/or evaluation period

Now you can really get to work in your workplace, first under supervision and then independently.
