Unit Manager (EC & Cardiac ward) – Somerset West, Western Cape

Job description

Hire Resolve’s client is urgently seeking the expertise of a Unit Manager (EC & Cardiac ward) in Somerset West, Western Cape.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring professional and ethical nursing practices are followed to deliver high-quality care.
  • Coordinating staff training, development, and mentorship within the unit.
  • Implementing and managing effective operational practices by integrating people, technology, and financial resources to maintain the unit's budget.
  • Administering and supervising to ensure quality nursing care standards are met, continuously evaluating and taking appropriate action.
  • Monitoring and enforcing standards, procedures, and staff performance.
  • Managing unit activities, including addressing irregularities and policy violations, and taking corrective and follow-up actions.
  • Providing clinical instruction when necessary.
  • Controlling drugs according to regulations, performing checks on drug totals and registers, and ensuring adherence to procedures and recording.
  • Rationalizing and controlling emergency stock.
  • Monitoring and managing staff attendance to ensure constant unit coverage.
  • Allocating staff based on workload and competence to optimize staff usage and maintain the nurse/patient ratio.
  • Promoting and maintaining positive working relationships with management, patients, staff, and colleagues.
  • Coordinating activities with all hospital departments to ensure uniformity of direction.
  • Demonstrating professional ethics and leadership qualities.
  • Maintaining standards and conduct to the South African Nursing Act and SANC Regulations.
  • Conducting frequent ward rounds and providing top-quality, customer-centric service.
  • Ensuring all processes align with working procedures and policies.

Requirements:

  • A relevant nursing qualification, such as a Diploma in General Nursing or a B Cur Degree, or an equivalent NQF 7 qualification.
  • Registration as a Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
  • A post-basic qualification in Management would be considered an advantage.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience within a private hospital environment.
  • Experience in clinical leadership.
  • Mental Health experience.
  • Sound financial knowledge and the ability to interpret financial data.
