UI Designer (m/f/d) Mobile Apps - Remote - Freelance/Contract - 3 Months (Option to Extend)

Why this role, why now 

We are not looking for someone who builds pretty mockups and then waits. 

We are looking for someone who takes a mobile app and makes it look better afterward. Clearer, more consistent, platform-appropriate. Someone who differentiates between iOS and Android, someone whose Figma files make developers happy. 

The feedback from our previous pipeline was clear: too many candidates showed strong UX thinking skills but weak UI execution. That's why we deliberately changed the title. This role is a UI role. If your portfolio shows how you build interfaces – not just conceptualize them – then read on.

The Role 

You will work directly in the Product/Design team and be responsible for the UI execution of our mobile app. No endless workshops. No concept spirals. You will bring visual quality to the screen, platform-appropriate, developer-friendly, consistent. 

Contract. 3 months, with a realistic option for extension. Remote-first, async-friendly, clear agreements instead of micromanagement. 

Your Responsibilities 

• UI Design for iOS and Android: Platform-specific, not generic: Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design 3 are your guardrails 

• Figma Work at a Senior Level: Auto Layout, Variables, Design Tokens, Interactive Components, Dev Mode/Handoff; your files are built so that developers do not need to ask questions 

• Component Library & Design System: You build components that scale: States, Variants, Tokens, cleanly documented 

• Enforce Visual Quality: Visual Hierarchy, Typography, Spacing, Color System; you see what's wrong, and you know why 

• Pixel-Perfect Delivery: Specifications, Annotations, Handoff-ready

• UI Motion Basics: Transitions and Micro-interactions; basic understanding is sufficient, no specialist needed 

• Close collaboration with Product & Engineering: Async-first, documented decisions, clean iteration

What You Bring 

Must-haves: 

• Portfolio with at least 2 launched native apps (iOS or Android) with a described personal UI role

• Figma Mastery: Auto Layout, Variables/Design Tokens, Component Libraries, Prototyping, Dev Mode 

• Mobile Platform Understanding: iOS HIG and Android Material Design 3; you know what platform-native patterns are 

• Visual Craftsmanship: Visual Hierarchy, Typography, Spacing/Grid, Color System, Contrast 

• Clean Dev Handoff

• Self-directed work in a remote setup, async-first, structured communication 

Nice-to-haves: 

• Design System Governance (Versioning, Contribution Guidelines) 

• Accessibility on Mobile (WCAG, iOS/Android Standards) 

• ProtoPie or Principle for advanced prototypes 

• Industry Background: HealthTech, D2C, FinTech 

• German Language Skills (not a must, English is the working language)
