Mechanical Technician

Job Objective:

Ensure the reliability and mechanical integrity of dynamic and static equipment in the facilities — centrifugal pumps, reciprocating motor-compressors, centrifugal compressors, gas and steam turbines, internal combustion engines, centrifuges — through predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance activities, vibration diagnostics, alignment, balancing, and failure analysis, complying with ASEA/STPS regulations and international standards API/ISO applicable to the Oil & Gas industry, with technical autonomy to operate on-site under plant conditions, stations, separation batteries, and wells. Carry out the maintenance plan.

Main Functions:

• Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on API 610 centrifugal pumps (OH, BB, VS) in refined hydrocarbon, process water, and auxiliary services.
• Perform maintenance on reciprocating motor-compressors (Ajax DPC, Ariel, Cooper): service to cylinder heads, suction and discharge valves, rod packing, connecting rods, ignition systems, and forced lubrication.
• Service centrifugal compressors under API 617: impellers, diffusers, dry gas seals, lubrication systems, seal gas, and antisurge panel.
• Execute major and minor maintenance on gas turbogenerators (Solar Centaur, Taurus, Mars / GE LM / Siemens SGT): boroscopic inspection, replacement of injectors and spark plugs, maintenance on gearboxes and lubrication systems, acceleration and synchronization tests.
• Perform maintenance on disc centrifuges (Alfa Laval X20 and similar): disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of the disc stack, verification of locking torque, balancing, and seals according to the Service Operation Manual (SOM) procedures.
• Service internal combustion engines (Caterpillar 3406/3408 and similar) for emergency generation and pumping: cylinder heads, valves, injectors, turbochargers, intercoolers, ADEM system, and emissions control under NOM-085-SEMARNAT.
• Perform vibration analysis under ISO 10816/20816 and ISO 7919, diagnosing imbalance, misalignment, looseness, bearing failures, gear failures, cavitation, and resonance.
• Perform laser alignment (Pruftechnik, SKF TKSA, Easy-Laser, Fixturlaser) and dial indicator alignment (rim & face, reverse dial) under ANSI/ASA S2.75 and API 686, with compensation for thermal growth and soft foot correction.
• Perform one and two-plane dynamic balancing in-situ with portable instruments, applying ISO 21940 quality grades and modal balancing when required.
• Inspect, select, and mount bearings (SKF, FAG, Timken, NSK) with cold and hot mounting techniques using an induction heater; replace API 682 mechanical seals (Plans 11, 13, 23, 32, 52, 53A/B/C, 54, 62, 72/74).
• Apply complementary predictive techniques: Level I/II thermography (FLIR, Fluke Ti), airborne and structure-borne ultrasound (SDT, UE Systems), motor current analysis (MCA/MCSA), and boroscopic inspection.
• Rigorously apply mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic LOTO under NOM-029-STPS; execute lockout, purging, depressurization, and degassing procedures before any opening.
• Record activities, measurements, and technical reports in the company's CMMS (SAP-PM, Maximo, or equivalent); prepare root cause analysis reports and asset life history records.
• Participate in major turnarounds, commissioning of new equipment, walk-downs, and emergency response drills; comply with and promote Perenco México's SASISOPA and QHSE policy.

Requirements:

University Technical Degree or Engineering in Mechanical, Electromechanical, Industrial Maintenance, or a related discipline.

Experience:

Minimum 7 years of proven experience in maintenance and diagnostics of rotating equipment in the Oil & Gas industry (refining, petrochemical, natural gas, exploration and production, or continuous process plants).

Knowledge:

API 610 Centrifugal Pumps

• API 610 centrifugal pumps of type OH, BB, and VS in refined hydrocarbon service.
• Disassembly, dimensional inspection, tolerance evaluation, and reassembly under API 686/687.
• Replacement and diagnosis of API 682 mechanical seals (Plans 11, 13, 23, 32, 52, 53A/B/C, 54, 62, 72/74).
• Inspection of impellers, volutes, wear rings, shafts, and sleeves.
• Hydrostatic tests, NPSH, operating curve, and mechanical bench tests.

Reciprocating Motor-Compressors (Ajax, Ariel, Cooper)

• Integral motor-compressors of type Ajax DPC-2802LE, Ariel, Cooper, or similar.
• Service to cylinder heads, suction/discharge valves, rod packing, cross-heads, and connecting rods.
• Inspection and replacement of crankshaft bearings, oil pumps, and forced lubrication systems.
• Adjustment of spark plugs, magnetos, ignition systems, governors, and fuel gas carburetors.
• Capacity tests, volumetric efficiency, and PV indicator tests under API 618/11P.

Centrifugal Compressors

• Multistage centrifugal compressors under API 617.
• Inspection of impellers, diffusers, dry gas seals, and oil seals.
• Lubrication systems, seal gas, and antisurge control panel.
• Verification of hydrodynamic bearings and axial thrust.
• Analysis of operating maps and diagnosis of surge/stall phenomena.

Gas Turbines (Solar Centaur/Taurus/Mars, GE LM, Siemens SGT)

• Solar Centaur 60 (5.2 MW), Taurus 60/70, Mars turbogenerators or equivalents (GE LM, Siemens SGT).
• Boroscopic inspection of axial compressor, combustion chamber, blades, and nozzles.
• Replacement of injectors, spark plugs, fuel gas system, and intake filters.
• Maintenance on gearboxes, high-speed couplings, and lubrication systems.
• Acceleration, synchronization, parallel operation tests, and governor verification (Woodward, Solar Turbotronic).
• Compliance with Operating and Maintenance Manual (OMM) and OEM bulletins.

Centrifuges

• Alfa Laval X20 centrifuges and similar for refinery hydrocarbon service 24/7.
• Disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of the disc stack, distributor, and bowl body.
• Verification of locking nut torque, balancing, and seals.
• Maintenance of the transmission system, gearbox, thrust and radial bearings.
• Application of Service Operation Manual (SOM) procedures.

Combustion Engines (Caterpillar 3406/3408)

• Diesel and natural gas Caterpillar 3406/3408 engines for emergency generation and pumping.
• Service to cylinder heads, valves, injectors, turbochargers, intercoolers, and cooling system.
• Oil and filter changes, verification of electronic control system (ADEM).
• Load tests, RPM adjustment, emissions control under NOM-085-SEMARNAT.

Specialized Technical Competencies:

Vibration Analysis

• Vibration analysis CAT I, II, or III under ISO 18436-2 (Mobius Institute, Vibration Institute, CTC).
• Measurements under ISO 10816/20816 (RMS velocity severity) and ISO 7919 (shaft proximity).
• Data collector operation: SKF Microlog, CSI 2140/2600 (Emerson), Bently Nevada SCOUT, Pruftechnik VibXpert, Fluke 805/810, or similar.
• Spectral analysis, waveforms, orbits, Bode plots, Nyquist plots, and waterfall plots.

Alignment

• Laser alignment (Pruftechnik Optalign/Rotalign, SKF TKSA, Easy-Laser, Fixturlaser).
• Alignment using dial indicator method (rim & face, reverse dial).
• Application of tolerances under ANSI/ASA S2.75 and API 686.
• Correction for thermal growth and soft foot.
• Alignment of complex trains: motor-gearbox-compressor / turbine-gearbox-generator.

Dynamic Balancing

• One and two-plane in-situ balancing with portable instruments.
• Balancing on shop balancing machines.
• Application of ISO 21940 balancing grades for impellers, rotors, and fans.
• Calculation of influence coefficients and modal balancing.

Bearings, Seals, and Lubrication

• Selection, inspection, and mounting of bearings: SKF, FAG, Timken, NSK (cold and hot mounting with induction heater).
• Inspection of hydrodynamic bearings (tilting pad, plain) and diagnosis of wear patterns.
• Replacement and commissioning of API 682 mechanical seals (single, dual pressurized, dual unpressurized).
• Lubrication systems under API 614: pumps, filters, coolers, accumulators, and control panel.
• Lubricating oil analysis: viscosity, particle count (ISO 4406), water content (Karl Fischer), TAN/TBN, ferrography.

Condition Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance

• Level I or II infrared thermography (FLIR, Fluke Ti) for hot spot detection.
• Airborne and structure-borne ultrasound (SDT, UE Systems) for early detection of faults, leaks, and cavitation.
• Motor current analysis (MCA/MCSA) for diagnosis of electrical and mechanical faults.
• Boroscopic inspection of turbines, compressors, and engines.

Failure Analysis and Reliability

• Preliminary metallurgical inspection: fatigue, corrosion, overheating, fracture.
• Calculation of indicators: MTBF, MTTR, availability, reliability.
• Asset criticality management under ISO 14224.
