Laboratory Technician in Mycology (F/H/X)

For the 'Earth and Life Institute' (ELI), from the Sector of Sciences and Technologies (SST) Main site: Louvain-la-Neuve Full-time contract, for a fixed term (1 year, with possible extension) Start date: as soon as possible Context / Mission Within the framework of a project funded by the Scientific Policy (BELSPO) for the BCCM/MUCL (Fungal Collection of the UCLouvain) project, the project will focus on activities around a collection of microscopic fungi including a collection and preservation of fungal cultures, as well as their identification and characterization. The goal is to create a comprehensive database of fungal species and to develop new methods for the detection and quantification of fungal biomass in environmental samples. This project aims to contribute to the understanding of the role of fungi in ecosystems and to the development of innovative technologies for the detection and monitoring of fungal contamination. The successful candidate will be responsible for the collection, preservation, and identification of fungal cultures, as well as the development of new methods for the detection and quantification of fungal biomass. He/she will also contribute to the creation of a comprehensive database of fungal species and will participate in the organization of workshops and training sessions for researchers and students. The candidate must have a strong background in mycology and microbiology, with experience in the collection, preservation, and identification of fungal cultures. He/she should also have knowledge of molecular biology techniques and experience in the development of new methods for the detection and quantification of biological molecules.
