Technical Work Student with Perspective on Founding Engineer / Co-Founder

Qentin is a Munich AI Startup and part of the Media Startup Fellowship Program from Media Lab Bayern. We are building a new guide for film and series discovery that helps people make faster decisions. Instead of classical genre lists, Qentin connects mood, context, personal preferences, and KI-based recommendations.

As an employer, we offer a lot of design freedom, short decision-making paths, and the opportunity to build a real consumer product early on. Whoever starts with us doesn't work on peripheral tasks but directly on the core product. For the right person, there is the perspective of growing from a work student role into a Founding Engineer or Co-Founder role.

Tasks

You will support us in building and developing our product from the start. You will be working directly at the core of Qentin: a KI-based guide for film and series discovery.

Your tasks include:

• Further development of our existing prototype and web app
• Implementation of new product features in frontend and possibly backend
• Work on integrating KI functions, recommendation logic, and user flows
• Improvement of the user experience around search, onboarding, recommendations, and feedback
• Technical implementation of tests, experiments, and product iterations
• Analysis of technical problems and pragmatic development of clean solutions
• Close cooperation with the founding team on product decisions, feature prioritization, and technical roadmap

You won't get isolated side tasks but will be working directly on questions like: How do users find the right film quickly? How does one translate mood, context, and taste into good recommendations? And how should a consumer product be built so that users come back?

If there is a strong fit, there is the possibility of gradually growing from the work student role into a larger technical responsibility, potentially even as Founding Engineer or Co-Founder.

Qualification

You are studying computer science, software engineering, data science, business informatics, or a comparable technical field and have a desire to build an early consumer AI product.

What you should bring:

• First practical experience in web development, ideally with React, TypeScript, and modern frontend frameworks
• Basic understanding of backend development, APIs, and databases
• Interest in KI applications, LLMs, recommendation systems, or personalized user experiences
• Ability to develop pragmatically, test quickly, and iteratively improve
• Product understanding and interest in thinking about technical decisions from the user's perspective
• Independent, structured work style and willingness to take responsibility
• Very good German or English skills
