As a Technical Specialist Surface Weapon Technology, you contribute to ensuring that Defence acquires the best weapon systems for use on board existing and future ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy and can deploy them as effectively as possible.

You will contribute to specifying, developing, acquiring, integrating, and maintaining weapon systems for existing and new generations of ships of the Royal Netherlands Navy to enhance the safety of the Netherlands and partner countries. You will do this as an employee of the Surface Weapon Technology Bureau (BWT) of the Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT). BWT collaborates nationally and internationally with knowledge institutes and industry on weapon and fire control systems for the current and future generations of ships of the Sea Forces Command (CZSK). Your tasks include:

-Supporting requirement specifications for new (gun) systems by the Defence Staff.
-Participating in project teams for the acquisition and/or development of new (gun) systems. In the preparation phase, this includes drafting (technical and functional) requirements in consultation with the end-user, liaising with manufacturers regarding this, and analyzing received specifications and quotations. During project execution, this involves monitoring realization, reporting on progress, and coordinating discussions. Finally, you will oversee trials to verify that systems meet the stipulated requirements.

In all these activities, you will regularly consult with knowledge institutes, industry, and stakeholders within Defence.
-Advising on and supporting the operation and maintenance of (gun) systems currently in use by the CZSK. This also includes monitoring performance.
-Contributing to the standardization of materiel by defining approved configurations of materiel, including operational aspects such as required training, maintenance tasks, and shore-based facilities.
-Acquiring and maintaining technical knowledge in the field of weapon and fire control systems. This includes knowledge within the bureau as well as knowledge at knowledge institutes. You will provide input for the bureau's Roadmaps, participate in conferences, and maintain contact with knowledge institutes, industry, and foreign defence organizations.
-Initiating and guiding (scientific) research and studies.
-Providing solicited and unsolicited advice to colleagues/stakeholders within and outside Defence.

As an employee of BWT, you work independently and are given a lot of responsibility. When interacting with parties outside Defence, you often act as a representative of Defence. You will have considerable freedom in carrying out your tasks, of course, commensurate with your experience, the workload, and the bureau's planning.

Job Requirements

-Knowledge and insight into the fields relevant to weapon technology at an academic level, or HBO with equivalent thinking and working level.
-Knowledge of and affinity with other sensor, weapon, command, and fire control systems and their (operational) use is an advantage.
