Job description

Who we are

termios makes heating in residential and commercial properties smarter and more climate-friendly. Our thermostat saves noticeable energy and helps asset managers, housing associations, and owners achieve their ESG and Net-Zero goals.

We are a startup - founded in 2023 as a joint venture by mantro (Company Builder), the Sauerland family company Oventrop, and LEG Immobilien SE from Düsseldorf. As a technology company, we develop green solutions for heating, sustainability, and ESG for residential properties.

Our product — termios Pro — is a cloud-connected smart thermostat that helps housing companies reduce verifiable CO₂ and energy consumption in their portfolio.

Why we are filling this position

Our algorithms team has data from tens of thousands of installed thermostats and can develop, evaluate, and roll out methods based on theory and data. You will work with us here – with your background, you will develop methods and assess whether an idea can withstand the reality of actual building hydraulics, various heat generators (remote heating transfer stations, heat pumps, etc.), and the different control systems in the field.

Tasks

  • Evaluate hydraulics and system types: Whether it's one-pipe and two-pipe systems, remote heating (including return temperature limitation and network requirements), systems with circuit balancing and differential pressure control valves, as well as presettings and kv values - you are familiar with the hydraulics of different system types and can assess the requirements that arise for our methods.
  • Assess feasibility: You evaluate algorithmic and methodical ideas for their technical system viability – and state early on if an assumption deviates from reality.
  • Design and conduct field tests: You set up test scenarios in real buildings, control them, measure, and evaluate the results.
  • Read and evaluate measurement Although we collect many measurement values, some are not directly readable - radiators typically have neither flow measurement nor return sensors. You know which physical relationships are important and can correctly read and interpret the available measurement data accordingly.
  • Formalize methods: You support us in bringing physical relationships and calculation rules into an implementable form – with defined input variables, boundary conditions, validity ranges, and what should happen with missing or implausible values.
  • Act as a subject matter expert: internally for development and product, and if necessary, in exchange with the housing industry, technical planning, and trades.

Qualification

  • Either a completed degree in Building Services Engineering, Technical Building Equipment, Building and Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Process Engineering,
or – alternatively – a technician or master craftsman qualification with relevant practical experience.
  • Proven practical experience with existing heating systems: Planning, commissioning, optimization, or operational management. You have performed hydraulic balancing, heating curve adjustment, and troubleshooting yourself, not just read about it.
  • Experience with algorithm and logic development: You have previously written a calculation or control rule in such a way that someone else could implement it – as a design calculation, simulation model, Excel tool, or control strategy.
  • Experience with measurement technology and commissioning – You know how to set up a measurement so that it can deliver meaningful values in the end.
  • Willingness to work data-driven: the habit of translating a hypothesis about a building into an evaluable question. Prior experience is a plus, willingness is the requirement.
  • Willingness to travel to sites – the role thrives on the alternation between the heating cellar and the desk.
  • Fluent German, English at working level (team language).

What you don't need

You don't need to be able to program. No machine learning experience, no IoT prior knowledge, no embedded knowledge. These competencies are in the team.
If you feel at home with system technology and are willing to delve into data, you are the right fit.

Benefits

  • Real influence on what is built. We are developing a new product, and you can shape it directly.
  • Everything under one roof: hardware, firmware, radio, cloud, and data. Those who built what you are asking about are in the same team.
  • A measurement data set from thousands of apartments – the opportunity to answer questions that cannot be answered from a single building.
  • On-site access as part of the role, not an exception. If you want to test an idea on a real circuit, we will organize it.
  • Permanent employment with competitive salary, 30 days of vacation, thanks to the joint venture partners, more team events and parties than usual.
