Laboratory Technician

Description of the post



Responsibilities for setting up the laboratory:

  1. To take an active part in setting up the laboratory, as well as its planning and organization;
  2. To write procedures for operations and instructions for sampling and analysis;
  3. To establish needs for equipment, instruments, and consumables (accessories, reagents, etc…);
  4. To collaborate on archiving and tracing procedures;
  5. To establish laboratory safety standards and rules;

Responsibilities for laboratory operations:

  1. To perform sampling of substances according to appropriate methods and good laboratory practices;
  2. To ensure that there is no contamination between samples and equipment;
  3. To prepare the necessary materials, instruments, and solutions for analyses or experiments;
  4. To manipulate laboratory equipment and instruments, and proceed with frequent calibrations and maintenance;
  5. To perform laboratory analyses according to the sampling and analysis plan established, within the scheduled deadlines;
  6. To apply cautionary measures during substance manipulation and disposal;
  7. To inform supervisors to support proactive monitoring of operating parameters (temperature and humidity) for biomethanization product development, in order to make required adjustments;
  8. To prepare simple sample and procedure for analysis;
  9. To perform data treatment and analysis, and prepare protocols for implementation;
  10. To complete analysis reports and record required data on production reports;
  11. To complete all required documentation by operations or the City of Montreal, as needed;
  12. To ensure cleaning and proactive maintenance of equipment and workspaces in the laboratory to maintain a clean and safe environment;
  13. To participate in performance evaluation and surveys to identify operational problems and adjust procedures with production supervisor;
  14. To manage and provision adequate stocks of consumables necessary for process management;
  15. To actively participate in quality, health and safety, and environmental initiatives, as well as factory audits and promotion of related activities;
  16. To apply site and corporate rules, instructions, and procedures regarding quality, health and safety, and environment;
  17. To participate in safety audits related to workplace safety, investigations into work accidents and near-misses;
  18. To perform all other tasks connected to the job.
