Technical Lead - Backend (Node.js/TypeScript)

Kelkea is an innovative FemTech startup based in Berlin that offers expectant and new parents high-quality support and resources to help them enjoy a healthy and happy pregnancy, birth, and parental leave.

Our mobile app is unique in its combination of a personalized pregnancy calendar, a health tracker, and a selection of workouts, recipes, and a midwife chat for expectant and new mothers—much of it covered by health insurance at no cost to users. Since our founding in summer 2017, we have been working on our mission with passion, agility, and team spirit and have already supported over 600,000 women.

Tasks

• Own and evolve backend & cloud architecture – Design, build, and operate scalable, reliable backend systems using Node.js/TypeScript on AWS, ensuring best practices across infrastructure, security, and performance.
• Lead infrastructure automation and delivery excellence – Drive the transition to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and optimize CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to enable fast, safe, and repeatable deployments.
• Provide technical leadership and cross-functional guidance – Mentor backend engineers, uphold high code quality standards, and clearly communicate architectural trade-offs to product, frontend, and non-technical stakeholders.

1. Infrastructure Health & Optimization: Conduct a comprehensive audit of our AWS environment to identify opportunities for scalability, cost-efficiency, and security improvements.
