About Quantum Brilliance QB is an Australian-German diamond quantum technology company that was founded in 2019 to commercialize technologies that were initially developed at the Australian National University and the University of Stuttgart. QB’s mission is to deliver mass-deployable quantum technology by focusing on the development and manufacturing of advanced diamond materials and integrated diamond quantum micro-devices. With labs located in Australia (Melbourne & Canberra) and Germany (Stuttgart), Quantum Brilliance is building a global team of multidisciplinary experts to realize our vision of making quantum computing a reality. About the Role: Quantum Brilliance is seeking an experienced, innovative, and highly motivated Technical Director of Materials and Metrology to lead the development of our diamond materials and measurement science program. The Technical Director will be responsible for the overall strategy, technical roadmap, and execution of the company's materials and metrology activities, including: * Developing advanced diamond materials for quantum applications, including growth, characterization, and processing. * Establishing and maintaining state-of-the-art metrology capabilities for characterizing diamond materials and quantum devices. * Leading a team of scientists and engineers to achieve technical objectives and meet project milestones. * Collaborating with other teams within the company (e.g., device fabrication, quantum computing, product development) to ensure alignment and integration of materials and metrology efforts. * Managing the budget, resources, and timelines for materials and metrology projects. * Identifying and securing funding opportunities for research and development. * Staying abreast of the latest developments in diamond materials science and quantum technology. * Presenting research findings at conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. * Providing technical leadership and mentorship to team members. * Ensuring the quality and reliability of all materials and metrology processes. Qualifications: * PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. * 10+ years of experience in materials science, metrology, or a related field, with a focus on diamond materials. * Proven track record of developing and characterizing advanced materials, preferably diamond. * Experience with a variety of metrology techniques, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. * Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a team. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. * Experience in a quantum technology environment is a plus. * Experience with project management and budget management. * Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
