Tech Lead Marketplace Experience (m/f/d)
Job description
About the Position
Shape the digital infrastructure of European horticulture with us
Connected Growers develops June – the platform for efficient collaboration between growers, B2B buyers, and marketers. We are replacing fragmented processes with modern software and creating a unified digital infrastructure for an entire industry.
To achieve this, we are looking for reinforcements as a Tech Lead Marketplace Experience (m/f/d) not just to develop software, but to build a team, take on technical responsibility, and shape the future of our platform together with the product team.
Your Role at JuneAs a Tech Lead Grower Marketplace Experience (m/f/d), you will be responsible for the technical development of our Marketplace and its associated services. You will report directly to our CTO Anna.
You will build a new Engineering Squad from scratch and take on technical and functional responsibility for one of June's most commercially important areas. It's not just about building good software: you will set the technical direction, make decisions under uncertainty, develop people, and shape the culture of your squad. Together with the product team, you will ensure that we develop features that create measurable added value for our customers.
We will provide you with the context and freedom you need to lead your area independently. In return, we expect you to take responsibility, make decisions, and stand by their consequences – in a dynamic environment where priorities change and information is not always complete.
You are not a classic people manager. You lead through technical depth, clarity, decisions, and trust. You remain hands-on in the code without becoming a technical bottleneck, make architectural decisions, and support your team in developing high-quality software together.
Our Marketplace is based on Spryker Commerce OS. You will develop a clear understanding of when we work within Spryker conventions, when we extend them, and when an individual solution makes sense. You will always keep the long-term maintainability and extensibility of our platform in mind.
Requirements
What you bring
You have several years of experience as a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer in web and e-commerce applications, as well as in-depth practical experience with PHP and Spryker Commerce OS, and you know when to work within Spryker conventions, extend them, or consciously deviate from them.
You have experience with API or Spec-first development, as well as with AWS cloud infrastructures, modern deployment processes, and monitoring.
You have prior experience in team building and know what is important.
You have an understanding, interest, and enthusiasm for product development (software) and team development (people).
You work independently, communicate clearly, have high quality standards, and are fluent in German and have very good English.
Good knowledge of TypeScript.
Experience with ERP, Warehouse, or Commerce systems.
Experience with complex order, pricing, or inventory/catalogue processes.
Experience in a startup or fast-growing technology company.
Scope of Duties
What you will achieve with us
You will be responsible for the architecture, technical quality, and further development of the Marketplace and its services.
You will build your squad, develop your team members, and create a culture of ownership, pragmatism, and continuous learning.
You will develop a clear technical strategy for the Marketplace Experience product area and make conscious decisions about how we use and extend Spryker.
You will work closely with the product team and translate the needs of our buyers and sellers into sustainable technical solutions.
You will ensure that your team continuously delivers software safely and reliably – from technical specification and architecture, API design, and development, to operations, incident management, and continuous improvement.
You will take responsibility for performance, stability, security, and compliance, and ensure that technical risks are identified, assessed, and consciously addressed early on.
You will naturally use AI in everyday engineering tasks and help your team to use AI meaningfully and responsibly for development, testing, documentation, and code reviews.
Our teams are fully responsible for their product area: architecture, API design, development, operations, incidents, security, compliance. Commercial KPIs are included.
We talk to customers, visit them on-site, and test our solutions in their operational environment. Responsibility does not end at the merge button.
The Perspective
What awaits you
You will build something from scratch rather than managing an existing team.
You will be given a clearly defined area of responsibility and the freedom to shape it.
You will work directly with the CTO and Product Manager and can genuinely influence technical, product-related, culture-shaping, and commercial decisions.
You will see the consequences of your decisions immediately – in the product, the team, and the business.
Hybrid work in our office in Cologne as well as regular visits to customers, gardeners, and partners on-site.
This job description is intentionally opinionated and sets high standards. We are not looking for the perfect CV, but for people who will be happy at Connected Growers. If you don't meet all formal criteria, but recognize yourself in the way we work and lead, we would still be happy to receive your application. What you may still be missing in individual points, we can develop together – the crucial thing is that you bring the mindset and the willingness to grow into this role.
Note: The position will initially be filled via BridgeMaker and subsequently transferred to Connected Growers.
