Job description

On Noord, you speak with a metro driver about how their morning shift went. Afterwards, you ride along and hear that communication during works in the tunnel could be improved. At Gein, you then join a working group where you, together with colleagues from different departments, discuss how safety on and around the metro can be improved. As a metro team manager, you are there for your people and for the city. You connect, adjust, and move with what's happening: on the work floor and beyond. You provide direction, but also leave room. Sometimes you are a coach, sometimes you are a decision-maker. You are always present, approachable, and involved. Your attention to people and processes makes the difference: for your team and for transport in the city.

What you will do

As a team manager, you will directly lead about 40 to 50 drivers. You are visible on the work floor and know what's going on in your team. This means you

  • conduct conversations about employability, motivation, and performance, and ensure that colleagues can do their work safely, pleasantly, and professionally.
  • translate objectives – such as punctuality, productivity, and absenteeism – into clear agreements and actions.
  • promote healthy working and pick up on signals from your employees early on. Absenteeism requires continuous attention.
  • guide employees through difficult situations, for example, after a calamity.

You are involved, but also clear. You move with the dynamics of your team. Sometimes extra attention is needed, sometimes you can push through with innovation. You maintain overview and energy. In addition to your role on the work floor, you contribute to policy decisions, improvement projects, and the translation of plans into practice. So, you are not only operationally involved but also make strategic contributions to how we organize transport in the city.

What you bring

You are an experienced and people-oriented leader who stands firm in an operational environment. You:

  • work and think at a bachelor's degree level (hbo-niveau).
  • have at least 3 years of experience in leading large teams.
  • know what hospitality means and actively embody it.
  • enjoy working independently and defining your own role.
  • are flexibly deployable, including in early, late, and weekend shifts.

What you can expect

You take good care of our travelers. That's why we take good care of you. This is what you get based on a full-time workweek of 36 hours:

  • A salary of € 3,553 to a maximum of € 5,081 gross per month (scale 9), depending on your knowledge and experience.
  • An irregularity allowance and a standby allowance.
  • A 13th month, 8% holiday pay, and a sustainable employability benefit of 1.5%.
  • A well-arranged pension via ABP. GVB pays two-thirds of the premium.
  • An average of 21 vacation days per year (depending on your age), with the possibility to buy additional leave hours.
  • Instead of Good Friday and May 1st, you can choose 2 days off that suit you.
  • A monthly contribution of € 84.91 for your health insurance premium.
  • Free and unlimited travel with GVB for you. Your family can travel at a discount.
  • For commuting, you receive one reimbursement: a public transport subscription for travel outside the GVB area is the standard, a mileage allowance if public transport is not possible during your working hours, or a tax-friendly allowance if you use your own car.
  • You will receive the resources, including a laptop and phone, to do your job well.
  • Various training and career growth opportunities.

Your team

We work on a small scale and place great value on connection, both within the team and with the rest of the organization. Our style is warm business: we combine a personal approach with professional results. Together, we ensure that the metro safely and comfortably transports thousands of travelers daily. As a team manager, you work at multiple locations, including the endpoints Noord, Isolaterweg, and Gein. This way, you are visible and accessible to your team members and increase the connection within your team.
