Team Leader/Director, Financial Sponsors

Purpose

Ensure the fulfillment of Corporate Banking and Global Banking & Markets objectives through the development, coordination, and strengthening of Financial Sponsors coverage in Mexico, with a focus on private equity funds, infrastructure funds, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, institutional family offices, and other national and international financial investors.

Act as a strategic liaison between Scotiabank's Financial Sponsors teams in the United States, Canada, Europe, and other relevant markets, connecting local opportunities with global capabilities and promoting cross-border opportunities for the franchise. The position will be responsible for the development of local Financial Sponsors, the coordination of international Financial Sponsors with a presence or interest in Mexico, and the comprehensive promotion of credit, capital markets, investment banking, GTB, derivatives, syndications, and advisory capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the Financial Sponsors coverage strategy in Mexico, including local financial Sponsors, international funds with activity in Mexico, and Mexican sponsors with regional or global ambition.

• Serve as the coordination point between Mexico and the Financial Sponsors teams in the United States, Canada, and Europe to identify, refer, structure, and execute cross-border business opportunities.

• Develop and deepen relationships with Managing Partners, Investment Partners, Operating Partners, CFOs, Portfolio Operations teams, and key decision-makers within funds and portfolio companies.

• Maintain disciplined tracking of budget, goals, pipeline, internationally referred opportunities, profitability, capital usage, revenue mix, and path to profitability for covered relationships.

• Originate opportunities in lending, structured finance, acquisition finance, bridge financing, refinancings, project finance, capital markets, DCM, M&A advisory, syndications, FX, derivatives, Payroll, and Global Transaction Banking associated with funds and portfolio companies.

• Identify business opportunities with global Sponsors investing in Mexico and with Mexican Sponsors seeking investment, financing, acquisitions, or divestitures outside of Mexico.

• Coordinate and follow up with product partners, including DCM, Investment Banking, Loan Capital Markets/Syndications, Markets, GTB, Research, Legal, Onboarding, Compliance, Risk Management, and Capital Allocation, to present comprehensive and consistent solutions.

• Prepare, present, and review the portfolio strategy for the next 12 and 36 months with a holistic revenue focus, as well as New Business Proposals, Business Plans, One Pagers, Deal Forum materials, and credit proposals that include analysis of the client, transaction, risks, mitigants, expected profitability, RoRWA, and appropriate capital usage.

• Foster a culture of international collaboration under the One Bank approach, ensuring that opportunities originated in Mexico are visible to the global network and that global opportunities are landed locally with commercial and risk discipline.

• Promote, within Financial Sponsors coverage, the use of institutional capabilities linked to ScotiaBond as a cultural and execution framework, reinforcing the focus on clients, risk, collaboration, continuous improvement, and inclusion.

• Incorporate ScotiaBond into team and portfolio management through performance conversations, coaching, commercial accountability, proactive risk management, recognition of expected behaviors, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Identify and coordinate opportunities related to sustainable finance, ESG financing, energy transition, infrastructure, technology, health, consumer, financial services, and sectors where Sponsors have active investment theses.

• Ensure compliance and tracking of portfolio KPIs, including total revenue, lending revenues, fee income, deposits, GTB revenues, markets revenues, RoRWA, cross-sell, primacy, share of wallet, and internationally referred and executed opportunities.

• Prepare and execute the annual Financial Sponsors Mexico business plan, including Sponsor segmentation, priority theses, relationship map, coverage plan, origination opportunities, and international connectivity strategy.

• Review and ensure the accuracy of credit documents, contracts, 1035s, legal information, KYC, onboarding, and other materials sent to Risk, Legal, Compliance, and execution areas, providing client context, relationship strategy, and expected profitability.

• Understand the Bank's risk culture and apply it in daily activities and decisions, including early identification of credit, reputational, regulatory, behavioral, operational, AML/FT, and execution risks.

• Ensure compliance and effectiveness of business controls to manage operational, regulatory, money laundering, terrorist financing, conduct, and reputational risk, in line with applicable institutional frameworks.

• Promote a high-performance, inclusive, and results-oriented environment, developing talent, coaching new hires, and building technical, commercial, and risk capabilities within the team.

• Safeguard the Bank's reputation with clients, Sponsors, advisors, banks, investors, authorities, and other market participants.

Education / Experience / Other Information

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Engineering, or related field.

• Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related areas desirable.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial market corporate sales, Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Financial Sponsors Coverage, Leveraged Finance, Project Finance, Capital Markets, or related areas.

• Proven experience covering private equity, infrastructure funds, financial Sponsors, institutional, or sophisticated financial clients.

• Knowledge required in corporate credit analysis and structuring, acquisition finance, project financing, refinancings, syndicated structures, and capital markets products.

• Extensive knowledge of Cash Management, DCM, Markets, Foreign Exchange, Derivatives, Securitizations, Investment Banking, Syndications, Sustainable Finance, and treasury solutions products.

• Extensive knowledge of the Mexican banking market, fund ecosystem, financial advisors, law firms, investment banks, and relevant participants in M&A and financing transactions.

• Fluency in business English and ability to work fluidly with global teams and international clients.

• High senior relationship management skills with CEOs, CFOs, managing partners, investment committees, advisors, participating banks, and Scotiabank's global teams.

• Ability to lead teams, develop talent, coordinate multiple priorities, and operate with high discipline in risk, execution, and follow-up.
