Aufgaben

Your Role

As Systems Engineer – Embedded Systems & Interfaces, you will be responsible for the further development of all our interfaces, both physically and digitally, i.e., at the interface between Software, Electronics (E/E) and Mechanics. You are not just a coordinator: You are hands-on, build with it, test it, debug it, speak with suppliers/manufacturers, and bring the topics to life in Cologne.

You will bring enough seniority to lead and decide – and at the same time be willing to get your hands dirty in a small company.

• translates technical connections across disciplines cleanly and carries them into the team/partners
• likes working in the field and at the prototype: testing, measuring, iterating

Your Tasks

• Responsibility for the further development of Smarcel Interfaces from concept to rollout (Scope, Timeline, Budget, Risks)
• Hands-on participation in development: requirements refine, prototypes accompany, tests plan/evaluate, error patterns analyze
• Tight cooperation with software and hardware teams as well as external development partners; definition of clear deliverables
• Technical coordination and shaping of E/E architecture (e.g., component selection, interfaces, cabling, integration)
• Organization and implementation of integration and system tests (including pilot operation)
• Safety assurance of the technical readiness of the device in the overall system
• Stakeholder management with internal teams and external partners (e.g., package/logistics service providers)
• Support for procurement/disposition as needed, obtaining offers, speaking with suppliers and manufacturers, ensuring delivery capability
• Project documentation, status updates, and decision-making grounds

Qualification

Your Profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Embedded Systems or equivalent qualification
• Multiple years of experience in product development/engineering projects (Startup/Scale-up experience is an advantage)
• Strong software foundation, ideally with demonstrable development experience (e.g., backend/embedded/tools/automation) – including very good C++ knowledge and basic knowledge of Java
• Solid understanding of E/E (schematics/foundations, cabling, electrical interfaces, EMV foundations from an advantage)
• Experience with hardware-software integration (sensors/actors, protocols, interfaces) is a plus
• Experiences in a university project (Formula Student, Solar Car etc.) in a leading role are considered as relevant work experience and will be explicitly welcomed.
• High self-responsibility, pragmatism, and implementation strength
• Very good communication and coordination skills
• Fluent in German and English
