At the Swiss location, Signode develops innovative strapping machines and packaging solutions for global industrial applications. This involves connecting mechanics, electrical engineering, software development, and systems engineering.

The purpose of this position is to develop modern system components (hardware and software) within the development department and their integration into existing machines, system structures, and control systems. The role requires a holistic system understanding and close collaboration with the departments of design, software development, systems engineering, purchasing, assembly, and customer service.

• Development of innovative system components considering existing automation, control, and safety concepts

• Ensuring an automation-friendly system architecture considering Industry 4.0 and networked machine concepts

• Coordination of electrical engineering projects regarding deadlines, costs, and series optimization

• Analysis, evaluation, and documentation of automation processes, as well as creation of specifications

• Technical leadership and coordination of internal and external automation and engineering resources

• Development of PLC control and software architectures (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley)

• Project management of electrical development projects in hardware and software (PCBs, drives, user interfaces, etc.)

• Creation and maintenance of standard-compliant circuit diagrams and bills of materials with EPLAN

• Development of safety concepts including PL calculations according to EN ISO 13849

• Integration of components into higher-level automation environments (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Industrial Ethernet)

• Performance of functional, software, safety, and communication tests on prototypes

• Support for series production with optimization, parameterization, and troubleshooting

• Commissioning, parameterization, optimization, and acceptance of system components, including error analysis, upgrades, and technical customer support

• Participation in global rollout and integration projects (EPLAN, Siemens S7 / TIA Portal, Allen Bradley)

If you also bring the following experience and skills, you might be the perfect team member:

• Completed technical education with further education at university of applied sciences (FH) or professional college (HF) level in automation or systems engineering with relevant professional experience

• In-depth knowledge of industrial automation and control technology

• Industry knowledge in industrial electrical engineering, common manufacturers, and relevant IEC, ISO, and EN standards

• Knowledge in drive technology

• Good PLC programming skills (Siemens S7 / TIA Portal, Allen Bradley)

• Proficient use of EPLAN (EN 60204-1)

• In-depth knowledge of standards (Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, EN ISO 13849, EN 60204-1 or Machinery Ordinance 2023/1230)

• Experience with PL calculations and risk assessments

• Knowledge of industrial communication systems (Profinet, Ethernet/IP)

• Experience in commissioning and technical customer support

• Knowledge in electronics and microprocessor programming (μP)
