Job description

At Medipolis, we combine pharmaceutical expertise, modern care, and digital innovation to provide the best possible help for seriously ill people. To achieve this, we rely on strong teams, innovative solutions, and a reliable digital infrastructure. As a Storage and Backup System Engineer (m/f/d), you will make an important contribution to securely protecting our business-critical data, ensuring its availability, and continuously developing our IT infrastructure. This is how you combine your technical expertise with a task that truly matters.

We are offering you a permanent full-time position (40 hours/week) as soon as possible at our location in Jena.

Responsibilities
  • You will administer and optimize our storage systems, especially HPE Primera, Alletra, and 3PAR, as well as the associated SAN infrastructures with Brocade components. You will be responsible for capacity planning, performance, and availability.
  • You will operate and further develop backup and recovery solutions, especially with Veeam Backup & Replication and Proxmox Backup Server. You will ensure suitable backup plans, retention policies, and external backup copies, strengthening protection against ransomware and data loss.
  • You will plan and execute restore and disaster recovery tests for files, virtual machines, and applications. Together with the application owners, you will verify the functionality of the recovery processes.
  • You will support the operation and further development of our virtualization platforms based on Proxmox VE, VMware, and Microsoft Hyper-V as part of the data center team.
  • You will perform updates, firmware changes, migrations, and system expansions with risk analysis and fallback plans. You will analyze and resolve complex incidents in second and third-level support and coordinate manufacturer support if necessary.
  • You will keep technical documentation, system dependencies, and restart plans up-to-date, create comprehensible operating records, and contribute your expertise to IT infrastructure projects as well as the further development of operating processes.
  • You will coordinate service providers, liaise with system administrators, and in case of absence, take over tasks in second-level support, system monitoring, and on-site troubleshooting. Furthermore, you will participate in the agreed-upon on-call duty outside regular business hours.

Profile
  • You have completed a degree in computer science or a comparable field, or you have IT training, for example, as an IT system integration specialist, IT system electronics technician, or a comparable qualification. You have at least 8 years of professional experience in storage, backup, or infrastructure environments.
  • You possess in-depth knowledge in the administration of storage systems, ideally HPE Primera, Alletra, or 3PAR, as well as in SAN architectures and Brocade SAN fabrics.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of data backup and recovery, especially with Veeam Backup & Replication and/or Proxmox Backup Server. You understand the requirements for reliable backups, data integrity, and tested recovery processes.
  • You are familiar with VMware, Proxmox VE, and Microsoft Hyper-V. Knowledge of Active Peer Persistence and Logical Volume Management (LVM) is required; experience with Dell Storage, Synology NAS, or VMware vSAN is an advantage.
  • You understand the requirements for the secure operation of business-critical IT systems and are familiar with effective measures against ransomware, data loss, and unauthorized access. Certification in information security is desirable.
  • You systematically analyze complex incidents, develop sustainable solutions, and implement technical changes with consideration for risks, availability, and operational security. Comprehensible documentation is a matter of course for you.
  • You communicate transparently, collaborate constructively with IT teams, system administrators, and service providers, and are willing to participate in on-call duties as part of the agreed operating model.
  • You have native-level German language skills (C2) and English language skills at a B2 level.
