Storage Analyst - Senior

The Government of Alberta s Data Centre of Excellence (DCoE) requires a Data Platform Analyst to oversee the administration of a Hadoop-based integrated data and analytics platform (Cloudera Data Platform) and support other platforms such as Azure and Snowflake.

This role is instrumental in advancing the GoA Data Strategy by ensuring data platforms are designed, operated, and maintained to meet the needs of ministries and stakeholders, enabling the government to better leverage its data assets.

The successful candidate will be a Storage/Platform Analyst or Developer with strong technical expertise across cloud and on-premises environments, system administration, security and compliance, Agile/DevOps practices, and stakeholder engagement.

• Administer and support Cloudera Data Platform and other tools (Azure, Snowflake).

• Configure and optimize cloud tools for cost, security, and compliance.

• Ensure adherence to data privacy and security policies across platforms.

• Support and maintain the Hadoop ecosystem (YARN, MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, Zookeeper, Spark, Zeppelin, Atlas, Kerberos, Ranger, etc.).

• Perform cluster setup, capacity planning, performance tuning, monitoring, and scaling.

• Manage Hadoop storage performance, volume, and integration with Active Directory (AD).

• Provide HDFS support, including file system services (access, quotas, rights).

• Support Linux (RHEL 7.x+) and Windows OS administration.

• Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery services.

• Document configurations, best practices, and processes to support knowledge transfer.

• Collaborate with infrastructure, database, and application teams to ensure high availability.

• Participate in Agile delivery, sprint planning, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.

• Contribute to defining and enhancing the GoA Enterprise Data Strategy.

• Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.

• Experience:

  • 5+ years with Cloudera

  • 5+ years with Hadoop/Spark

  • 5+ years with Linux

  • 5+ years with Security and Identity Management

• 3+ years with Cloudera (additional).

• 2+ years with Microsoft Azure.

• 2+ years with Snowflake.

• 4+ years in complex multi-team IT support environments.

• Availability for travel within Alberta (Edmonton/Calgary).

• Ability to work evenings, weekends, or on-call (24/7/365 rotation).

• Candidate must supply their own compatible computer (Windows preferred for Azure Virtual Desktop).

• All overhead, equipment, and related costs must be included in the fixed rate.

• Standard: Monday Friday, 08:15 16:30 (Alberta time).

• Flexibility required for occasional overtime or urgent deliverables.
