Staff Software Engineer (f/m/d)

At the heart of the Decathlon Digital entity, the Data Platform team is looking for a Staff Software Engineer based in Lille.

To accelerate the transformation of our infrastructures and meet scalability challenges, we have created a SWAT team made up of senior experts and Staff Engineers.

As a Staff Software Engineer, your mission will be to bring software engineering excellence to the entire scope of the Data Platform. You will navigate transversally between our different teams (Factory, Core Data Product - CDP, MLOps, Platform Engineering) to establish software standards, design infrastructure components, and ensure technical excellence.

YOUR FUTURE CONTRIBUTION 

This role is a high-impact IC (Individual Contributor) track: you will not have direct team management, but a real role of technical leadership and mentorship. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be the guarantor of software excellence, ecosystem robustness, and platform interoperability.
You will be specifically in charge of:

• Software Excellence & Governance of Factory Applications :
  You will standardize our software engineering methods for the entire Data & AI Platform and leverage Decathlon Digital's expert communities to disseminate best practices.
  You will provide a rigorous software framework for key applications developed on the Factory side, particularly ARC and the Data Contract Registry.
• Platform Tooling & Agentic Integration :
  You will develop complex and demanding software components (APIs, internal SDKs, microservices) to equip Data, MLOps, and GenAI squads. You will design the technical architecture ensuring fluid, secure, and performant interconnection for the agentic platform.
• Data Exposure (RACE Project):
  You will bring your software engineering expertise to the RACE project, the Data Platform's strategic offering for packaging and deploying APIs on top of the Datalake (Gold / Insight layers). You will ensure the high availability, security, and scalability of these APIs to streamline operational and application usage.
• Real-Time Exploration & Streaming :
  Leveraging your knowledge of the Kafka / Streaming ecosystem, you will explore and experiment with new real-time Analytics Engineering architectures.
• Governance & FinOps : 
  You will guide architectural choices with a strong FinOps mindset, continuously optimizing dbt / Databricks execution performance and associated infrastructure costs. 
• Quality & Debt Management:
  You will act as a sentinel by proactively identifying technical debt across the entire Data Platform and orchestrating its remediation with the product and engineering teams.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Leadership & Software Excellence: You have solid software engineering experience and are passionate about development best practices (SOLID, TDD, Design Patterns, Modeling).
• Platform Engineering Culture: You understand what it means to build "products for developers" (clean APIs, well-documented, robust SDKs).
• Product Mindset & FinOps: You are focused on business value, ease of use for end-users, and cost-effectiveness of architectural choices.
• Pedagogy & Mentorship: You enjoy sharing knowledge, training teams on software standards, and upskilling engineers around you.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating with MLOps, PMs, and user teams. Fluent English to operate in our international context.
• Experience: You have solid experience as a Senior or Lead Software Engineer (or Backend Engineer) with a strong interest in platform, cloud infrastructure, or Data/AI tooling.
