Sr Power Electronics Engineer – II (R&D)

About Orbitt Space Orbitt Space is developing next-generation electric propulsion systems and advanced power electronics for ultra-low Earth orbit (ULEO) satellites. Our work focuses on plasma thrusters, High Voltage Power Systems, and GaN-based high-frequency power converters — pioneering technology for sustainable access to space. Role Overview We are seeking a Power Electronics Engineer – II (R&D) with hands-on experience in wide bandgap (GaN) device-based dc-dc converter design and MHz-range pulse-width modulation control. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the following areas: • Wide bandgap semiconductor devices, such as GaN FETs and SiC MOSFETs; • High-frequency power electronics, including high-voltage DC-DC converters and high-power amplifiers; • Pulse-width modulation (PWM) control techniques for MHz-range applications; • Power electronic converter design and simulation using software tools like SPICE or MATLAB/Simulink; • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB; • Experience working in a research and development environment, preferably in the aerospace or defense industry. Responsibilities: • Design and develop high-frequency power electronics converters for space applications; • Conduct simulations and modeling of power electronic systems using software tools like SPICE or MATLAB/Simulink; • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate power electronic components into larger systems; • Troubleshoot and debug power electronic systems, including fault detection and isolation; • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design reports, test procedures, and user manuals. Requirements: • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; • At least 3 years of experience in power electronics engineering, preferably with hands-on experience in wide bandgap device-based dc-dc converter design; • Strong understanding of high-frequency power electronics, pulse-width modulation control techniques, and power electronic converter design principles; • Proficiency in software tools like SPICE or MATLAB/Simulink for power electronic system simulation and modeling; • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB; • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
