Job description
SKALAR – We are building the digital tax firm of the future
Radically simple. Fully digital. 100% client-focused.
We are completely rethinking tax consulting: simpler, faster, and more transparent for clients and the firm's team alike.
Where other firms struggle with manual processes, long waiting times, and intransparent communication, we are building a completely new experience - digital, proactive, AI-supported. With automated processes in the background and digital interfaces to the client, repetitive tasks largely run on their own - giving you time for what really matters: sophisticated consulting, special cases, and strategic client questions.
The difference from other "digital firms": Over half of our team are software developers. You will directly shape what they build - and thus how AI-supported tax consulting will look in this industry at all. Your tax knowledge will shape the product, not just its application.
We are an experienced founding team of tax advisors, digital entrepreneurs, and software developers with an exit track record of €140 million. Together with you, we want to build one of the leading firms in Germany.
The role in one sentence
You will verify the documents and booking data of our clients, clarify discrepancies directly with them, and ensure that our tax team works on a clean data basis.
To do this, you will work hand in hand with our AI: you will check what it suggests, take over cases that it cannot yet handle, and develop it further with each case.
You do not need a tax-related education for this.
Your Tasks
1. You are the control instance between data and automation
Our AI reads documents, matches them to bank transactions, and suggests processing. You will check these suggestions: invoice details, tax identification, period, assignment to the client.
You will confirm, correct, or reject.
You will identify where the recognition systematically goes wrong: specific document types, suppliers, foreign currencies, formats.
You will keep an eye on the interfaces and report if a connection fails or delivers the same transactions twice.
2. You take over what the AI cannot do yet
Unclear payment partners, contradictory assignments, special cases without prior examples – anything that cannot be resolved automatically lands with you.
You will research the facts and decide them within our auditing criteria; anything requiring a tax assessment will be passed to a certified professional.
You will document your solution in such a way that it can be automated next time.
The better the automation becomes, the more sophisticated the cases that land with you. This role will not become smaller, but more specialized.
3. You clarify with the clients
You will request missing documents – in writing, specifically, and with a deadline – and follow up on outstanding items until completion, so that the management report is ready by the 15th.
You will clearly explain why a document is insufficient and what you need instead.
4. You make the AI better
With the expert knowledge you build up, you will become an important input provider for our product teams.
From your corrections and the patterns you identify, rules, prompts, and model adjustments will be created – you will develop these together with Engineering and Design.
You will test what has been built on real cases and decide with us what will be automated next.
Your Profile
Must-have
Completed apprenticeship or degree – the field is secondary. Career changers are explicitly welcome.
Analytical thinking: You recognize patterns and deviations in data, draw the right conclusions from individual cases, and can explain why something is incorrect.
Reliable quality with a high volume of cases: You work thoroughly, even when the AI is correct in most cases – it is precisely then that exceptions can easily fall through the cracks.
Interest in AI and automation: You want to understand why a system suggests something, not just what it suggests.
Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets and digital tools; eager to quickly learn new software.
Clear, friendly written communication in German (C1/C2) – client contact is predominantly written.
Independence and reliability: Remote work only works if commitments are kept.
A discernible desire to develop towards leadership or client responsibility.
Nice-to-have
Commercial understanding: You know how a business transaction proceeds from invoice to payment.
Initial exposure to accounting, bookkeeping, DATEV, or commercial administrative tasks.
Experience from an environment with a high volume of data (Operations, Backoffice, Support, Fulfillment, Payment).
We do not expect experience in a tax firm or programming skills.
What we offer
🚀 Your suggestions for improvement are built – not filed away. Our claim: A clearly described, actionable suggestion is live within eight working hours. This is possible because Engineering, Design, and the specialist team sit at the same table with us.
🤖 You work at the cutting edge of what automation can do in tax consulting – and push its boundaries. Access to current frontier models, modern hardware.
🏡 Fully remote possible. Office in Munich in the heart of the city, if you want – but it's not mandatory.
🎓 Further training, supported professionally and financially – for example, to become a tax clerk, tax specialist, or certified accountant.
🤝 Steep learning curve with founders and tech team. Short distances, direct sparring, decisions without hierarchical loops.
