This firm is a recognised force in plaintiff civil litigation in New Zealand. Known for challenging traditional law firm norms, they prioritise access to justice and act fearlessly on behalf of claimants. Their work spans insurance and construction disputes, relationship property, estate claims, abuse law, employment, and group/class actions.
As their caseload grows, they are now seeking a seasoned litigator to step into a Special Counsel role, someone who can offer strategic oversight, mentorship, and leadership across their expanding class action practice.

About the Role
Permanently based in Auckland, you will play a pivotal part in guiding complex, high-value litigation from inception through to resolution. Reporting directly to a Practice Leader, you will:
- Lead representative actions, class actions, and other significant plaintiff-side litigation
- Mentor and oversee a high-performing legal team across multiple live matters
- Develop and execute litigation strategy, coordinate expert evidence, and contribute to case planning
- Engage directly with litigation funders on strategy and portfolio budgeting
- Identify, assess, and originate new class action and group litigation opportunities
- Foster trusted client relationships through clear, proactive communication
About You
You’ll be a respected civil or commercial litigator with:
- A current NZ practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one)
- 7+ years of PQE, ideally with experience in complex disputes or representative proceedings
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale litigation or class action work
- Strong legal analysis and drafting skills, with the ability to oversee high-volume documentation
- The desire to mentor, lead, and develop junior practitioners
- A values-led approach to litigation and a commitment to client advocacy
