Solution Architect Automation & AI (n8n Focus)
Job description
We are relyon – a rapidly growing system integrator with a focus on KI & automation. Our mission: eliminate manual work, connect systems intelligently, and pragmatically apply KI – with measurable impact.
What makes us stand out:
- We work with customers from small to large enterprises – from the idea to the productive system
- Our tech stack grows with the requirements: today iPaaS, tomorrow maybe our own microservices
- We believe in ownership: you are responsible for your projects end-to-end
Tasks
You design automation solutions that make a real difference – for customers who fight daily with manual processes. You're technically deep: from the first architecture idea to the productive system.
What you can expect:
Architecture & Workflow Engineering
- Conceptualization and implementation of complex n8n workflows – from simple integrations to multi-step, fault-tolerant automation architectures
- Development of custom nodes and API integrations, if the standard building blocks are not sufficient
- Built-in robust error handling, retry logic, and monitoring – so that workflows don't just start but also run
KI Integration
- Integration of KI components into n8n workflows – e.g., for document processing, intelligent routing or data validation
- Evaluation of new KI services and their pragmatic integration into existing automation solutions
Technical Ownership
- End-to-end responsibility for customer projects: from the discovery workshop to go-live
- Technical documentation, code reviews, and active knowledge transfer within the team
- Co-shaping our n8n best practices, deployment standards, and internal tooling decisions
A typical project:
An insurance broker receives dozens of customer inquiries per day via email, which are manually classified and forwarded. You build an n8n workflow that automatically analyzes incoming emails, categorizes them using KI, and directly transfers them to the CRM – including escalation logic for complex cases. After six weeks, the system is running productively. Time savings: 20 hours per week, error rate approaching zero.
Qualification
Must-have:
- Proven, practical experience with n8n – ideally including self-hosting, custom nodes, and complex multi-step workflows
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, JSON, and common authentication procedures (OAuth 2.0, API keys)
- Familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript – because if a standard node doesn't suffice, you'll build your own
- You think in systems: Where do errors occur? How does the workflow behave under load? What happens when an API doesn't respond?
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with other automation platforms (make, Power Automate) or workflow orchestration tools
- Knowledge in KI integration – e.g., OpenAI-API, LangChain, or document-based processing pipelines
- Experience running n8n in enterprise environments (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD)
- Understanding of IT security, data protection, and DSGVO-compliant data processing
- Degree in computer science or equivalent qualification – but not a must if your GitHub profile speaks for itself
Mindset:
- You want to really understand processes – not just connect a workflow together
- You stay on the ball when n8n updates come, new KI services emerge, or a customer brings in a use case you haven't seen yet
- You communicate clearly – with developers just as much as with executives who don't know what a webhook is
Benefits
- Remuneration - Attractive basic salary + monthly chance for performance-based bonuses
- Flexibility - Hybrid working possible, flexible working hours
- Development - Diverse development and certification opportunities with a lot of freedom
- Workplace - Height-adjustable desk, ergonomic office chair, 2 external monitors, docking station
- Equipment - MacBook or ThinkPad, noise-cancelling headset
- Extras - Corporate benefits, JobRad, €100 contribution to occupational pension, coffee flat ☕
Your path to us
- Short application: – Resume + salary expectation (cover letter and references optional)
- Intro Chat (30 min): – First getting-to-know-you with our HR manager
- Follow-up & Practical Task (60 min): – Technical exchange + mini-case with the department head
- Executive Interview (30 min): – Final conversation with a board member
- Decision: – Within 5 working days
Contact person: David Walleneit, HR manager
