Then, after completing your military training, we have a job for you immediately: as a Soldier Scout / Fennek Driver in the Army. A dual role, where you drive an armored vehicle and act as the ears and eyes of the commander.
What you will do
As a Soldier Scout / Fennek Driver in the Army, you will gather tactical information for your unit. You are the ears and eyes of the Brigade. Because the information you collect about the enemy determines the actions of your unit.
You always move in a team of three. You do this on foot or with the Fennek, an armored vehicle that you drive yourself. You reconnoiter bridges, specific areas and routes that often lie deep in enemy territory. You can also be deployed to search for enemy scouts, or to guard the front and flanks of your brigade. You will be trained on multiple communication and weapon systems. Additionally, you may be assigned a specialization such as casualty assistant, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) operator, or communications specialist.

Where you will work
You will be stationed at 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot, 43 Mechanized Brigade in Darp, or at the Joint Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition & Reconnaissance Commando (JISTARC) of the Operational Support Command Land (OOCL) in 't Harde. You will participate in exercises and you should take into account that you may be deployed abroad.
Before you start working, you will first complete the Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Oirschot, Assen, or Ermelo, followed by the driver training at the Training and Education Center for Driving in Oirschot or Havelte. After this, you will complete the General Reconnaissance Training at the Training and Education Center for Maneuver in Amersfoort. After successfully completing your training, you will immediately start your career as a Soldier Scout / Fennek Driver.

In addition to gathering information, the vehicle is used for command and control, tactical operations of combat units, fire support, and ground-to-air defense. The Fennek often operates in small formations, over long distances, in darkness, and in high-threat conditions. The Fennek is named after a small desert fox due to several characteristics: quiet, inconspicuous, sharp observation, and, if necessary, fast and fierce. To make the Fennek as inconspicuous as possible, the vehicle is low and the engine is quiet. The exhaust gases are dispersed so that they are difficult to see on thermal images. It can also perform well in difficult terrain. The Fennek allows its crew to see a lot. The vehicle has special observation equipment. This viewer can be raised from the inside up to 1.5 meters above the roof and consists of a laser rangefinder, a digital camera, and a thermal imager. With the first viewer, the crew can see for miles in the dark. The Defense has 367 Fenneks for general service, as forward command post, as light reconnaissance and surveillance vehicle, and as fire support team, among others.
