Imagine: as a driver of an armored vehicle, you and your team go to the place of action to conduct ground combat there. With a completed VMBO BB diploma, this scenario can become a reality when you apply for this exciting position of Armored Infantry Soldier in the Army. Are you the soldier we are looking for?

What you will do

You will become part of the Armored Infantry, the unit deployed in complex terrain such as forests, villages, and cities. As an Armored Infantry Soldier, you are part of a group of ten soldiers and you will drive an armored vehicle: the Boxer or the Fennek.

The Boxer has a large cargo volume and load capacity and offers good protection against projectiles such as grenades, improvised explosive devices, machine gun ammunition, and shrapnel. The Boxer's purpose is to safely deploy the Infantrymen so that they can continue the fight. During combat, you and your onboard gunner and vehicle commander will provide security for the fighting units - sometimes with multiple vehicles at once. You will therefore have to work well together. After conquering the area, you will pick up the Infantrymen again to actively participate in the fight.

The Fennek is a low vehicle with a quiet engine, designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. You will support the combat units with mortars or anti-tank weapons so that they can conduct combat. After eliminating the enemy, you will immediately depart again to remain undetected. This is how you actively participate in the fight!

Once all these components have been successfully completed, your start date will be discussed and finalized.

Where you will work

You will work at 17 Armored Infantry Battalion Princess Irene Guard Regiment or 42 Armored Infantry Battalion Limburgse Jagers in Oirschot within the 13th Light Brigade. You will participate in exercises and you should take into account that you may be deployed abroad.

Before you start working, you will first follow training, consisting of the Basic Training Royal Netherlands Army (BOKL) in Oirschot, followed by the Maneuver Function Training (MFO). Finally, you will complete the driving training for the Boxer or Fennek. After successfully completing your training, you will immediately start your career as an Armored Infantry Soldier in the Army.

After your training, you will start in the position of Armored Infantry Soldier at 13 Light Brigade in Oirschot, where as a driver you will operate an armored vehicle: the Boxer or the Fennek. If you grow, you may be able to transfer to the position of Corporal Onboard Gunner of the Boxer or Fennek. You can also become a dismounted Infantryman to actively engage in combat.
