Software Architect – HMI / Automation Technology (m/f/d)

You don't just want to take on any code role. You want to define the overall technical architecture of industrial user interfaces.

This is not about pure UI development. This is about Security-by-Design according to IEC 62443, scalability, and integration into complex systems.

5 years of HMI experience, 2 years in an architecture-responsible position, and occasional customer travel are normal for you.

Your Responsibilities

• Design, documentation, and further development of the HMI software architecture (layers, modules, interfaces)
• Selection and evaluation of HMI frameworks and tools (Qt/QML, WinCC Unified, TIA Portal, Web HMI)
• Definition of architectural principles, design patterns (e.g., MVVM), and coding guidelines
• Development of reusable component libraries and control elements
• Conception of the connection to controllers via OPC UA, Profinet, Modbus, or MQTT
• Implementation of Security-by-Design, role, and rights concepts according to IEC 62443
• Technical guidance and coaching of the HMI development team
• Contribution to CI/CD pipelines, version control, and release processes

Your Profile

• At least 5 years of experience in HMI or embedded software development
• Of which at least 2 years in an architecture-responsible or leading technical role
• Practical experience with C++ (modern), Qt, QML, WinCC Unified, and TypeScript/JavaScript
• Confident use of OPC UA, MQTT, Profinet, and field-based communication protocols
• Knowledge of security standards IEC 62443 and experience in their implementation
• Fluent German and English skills (C2)

• Only front-end developers without embedded experience – lacking system understanding
• No interest in security – neglecting IEC 62443 requirements
• Inflexible – no willingness for occasional customer travel
• Lack of communication skills – inability to clearly convey technical concepts
