Job description

Our United PoS team is looking for a Software Engineer (f/m/d) on a permanent contract, based in Lille.

The United POS team designs and develops Decathlon's global transactional engine. Composed of product enthusiasts, our unified engineering team operates without silos to drive the entire checkout journey, from customer login to final payment. Our mission is strategic: to build a modern, sovereign, and 100% in-house checkout solution. Our daily challenge lies in developing a cutting-edge hybrid architecture (Quarkus, cloud microservices, Kafka) to ensure the reliability of physical cash registers worldwide, serving our teammates and our customers.

YOUR FUTURE CONTRIBUTION

  • Design a resilient and fault-tolerant system (Edge Computing): Develop robust asynchronous synchronization mechanisms (outbox pattern) ensuring 100% functional continuity of service in store, even in case of network outages.
  • Drive hardware and web interfacing: Connect our modern web applications (React) and backend (Quarkus) with the physical store equipment (cash drawers, printers, RFID antennas, and Worldline payment terminals).
  • Ensure transaction security and compliance: Implement complex financial features while scrupulously respecting international and local standards (PCI-DSS v4.0, GDPR, LNE anti-fraud certifications).
  • Develop and evolve an offline-first architecture: Build and maintain an event-driven state machine using Quarkus and React.
  • Actively participate in architectural decisions: Contribute to design standards (DDD, state machines, decoupling) and implement advanced test automation (Playwright E2E) within our large-scale CI/CD pipelines.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Mastery of software development: Solid experience in designing robust, modular, and maintainable applications with React and/or Java/Quarkus.
  • Understanding of distributed architectures: Good grasp of event-driven architectures, the outbox pattern, and asynchronous state management.
  • Awareness of quality and testing: A strong aptitude for software quality (DDD, integration tests, E2E automation with Playwright).
  • Team spirit and product ownership: The desire to work within a unified team, curious, eager to learn, and to help each other across the entire transactional value chain.

TECHNICAL STACK

  • Backend & Cloud: Quarkus, Java, cloud microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, S3.
  • Frontend & Edge: React, offline-first architectures.
  • Communication & Events: Apache Kafka, event-driven architecture, local outbox pattern.
  • Hardware & IoT: Payment protocols (Worldline), RFID, payment processing, cash register peripherals.
  • Testing & CI/CD: Playwright (E2E tests), automated CI/CD pipelines.

WHAT WE OFFER YOU

  • Hybrid work organization;
  • Equipment provided in line with your missions and our societal commitments (Mac or Windows);
  • A local project team within a global network (possibility of international career);
  • Skill development and support (diversity of projects, internal and external training, etc.);
  • Remuneration package (employee share ownership, monthly/quarterly bonuses).
