Why junini exists

For a hundred years, glasses have been bought in the same way: pay a lot of money upfront and then live with the result for several years. The glasses subscription changes that. Customers get the glasses they really need, flexibly and at predictable monthly costs. This has long been normal in Scandinavia, where the market generates over 300 million euros a year with it. In Germany, only those with their own software department have been able to offer it so far. This makes it unattainable for around 8,000 independent opticians and regional chains.

We are building the solution that will enable every optician to offer a glasses subscription, from chains with 200 branches to independent opticians in pedestrian zones. Our goal is market leadership for glasses subscriptions in Europe, in an industry that has seen little innovation for decades.

Where we stand

The platform is developed, the first optician chain goes live in October. The financing is secured and allows us to focus on profitable growth sustainably. The move into further European markets is planned for next year.

Tasks

The Role

You are the first engineer alongside our CTO. No legacy systems, no processes to slow you down.

• Production Readiness: Together with the CTO, you are responsible for the platform in live operation and continuously develop it further.
• Product Responsibility: You take over entire areas of the platform and develop them independently.
• Technical Decisions: Architecture, stack, build and deploy. You have a say.
• Directly with the Customer: In the medium term, you will look after your own opticians and build based on what you learn there.
• AI-first Engineering: You shape how we develop, test, and deliver with AI.

Our Stack

Kotlin and Java with Spring Boot, React with TypeScript, AWS with RDS, GitHub Actions, plus integrations for auth, payments, and our opticians' merchandise management.

Qualification

What you bring

• Two to four years as a Software Engineer with a focus on backend. Ideally, you have experience with Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot.
• Cloud: You have not only built applications but also deployed and managed them in operation.
• React: enough to deliver a feature end-to-end, rather than waiting for someone.
• German: good enough for a conversation with an optician. It doesn't have to be perfect, but you want to look after your own customers early on. B2 level or better.
• Implementation over Discussion: You prefer to decide and correct later. You are not satisfied with a solution that is only okay.
• Low Ego

How we work

We are a small, motivated team that wants to scale quickly. The work environment is demanding and can be intense at times. In return, you get responsibility early on, a lot of creative freedom, and can gain unique experiences. You will work directly with Ben (MSc Economics LSE, Software Engineer at SoundCloud, among others) and Constantin (PhD Oxford, BCG, most recently VP Strategy at Mister Spex). We work onsite in our office in Berlin.

What we offer

55,000 to 70,000 Euros depending on qualifications and experience, plus a participation via our VSOP program depending on profile and seniority. Additionally, 30 vacation days, Apple hardware, fitness membership and other benefits, and an office in Berlin where we work together.
