Job description

Strictly Boring develops AI- and automation systems for e-commerce brands with a turnover of around 5 million euros. We solve operational problems that daily cost time, margin, and focus in growing DTC teams: manual reportings, repetitive support processes, error-prone data flows between Shopify, Klaviyo, ERP, and other tools.

Our claim: no AI demos, no hype pitch decks, but systems that run in everyday life, are measurable, and also work during Black Week.

Founded by Leon Ruddat, previously Head of AI & Automation at SNOCKS. Currently, we're growing out of the solo-founder phase into a small, focused delivery organization. For this, we're looking for the first technical key person: someone who builds customer solutions independently, co-creates architecture, and medium-term builds the technical team.

You're not developer number X, but the technical person whose projects hang together. We work small, fast, and directly: no politics, no bullshit meetings, no six-week decision-making process. You'll work closely with Leon, near real customer problems, and with plenty of design freedom.

Our stack: Google Cloud, Supabase, Firebase, Shopify, Klaviyo, Google Workspace APIs, as well as LLMs like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Gemini where they make sense. AI tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or Copilot are part of our daily business — but clean architecture, quality, and review discipline remain crucial.

Aufgaben

You own customer projects technically from A to Z — from problem understanding over architecture and code to go-live and operation.

  • Ownership: You understand customer problems, translate them into technical solutions, and build these independently.
  • AI-Systeme: You develop productive solutions for use cases like support triage, order anomaly detection, influencer reportings, or returns automation.
  • Architektur: You think in data sources, orchestration, LLMs, persistence, frontend, hosting, monitoring, and handover.
  • Stack: You work with Google Cloud, Supabase, Firebase, Shopify, Klaviyo, and Google Workspace APIs.
  • AI-Workflow: You use tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or Copilot productively, without blindly accepting outputs.
  • Kundenkommunikation: You discuss technical solutions directly with Leon and grow gradually into a professional customer lead.
  • Skalierung: You set up boilerplates, deployment pipelines, documentation, and code standards that will later become our dev team.

You won't do at Strictly Boring: tickets to work on, which someone else has defined; PowerPoints for steering committees; AI demos that never go live.

Qualifikation

We don't care if you have a degree or what framework is most prominent in your resume. What matters is: You can build, think, decide, and deliver.

Must-Have

  • Coding: You can really code and have at least 2-3 applications you've built and operated independently from scratch to live.
  • Cloud: You've deployed productive applications on GCP, AWS, or Azure, including secrets management, logging, and monitoring.
  • Architektur: You can translate customer problems into technical components and explain sensible trade-offs.
  • LLM-Erfahrung: You've built at least one productive LLM integration and know topics like tool calling, structured outputs, evals, cost control, and failure modes.
  • AI-Tools: You work with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar tools in everyday life and can describe your workflow concretely.
  • Pragmatismus: You understand that code is a means to an end. Customers want results, not tech demos.
  • Ownership: You want to take responsibility and have genuine interest in building something up.
  • Kommunikation: You speak directly, honestly, and on eye level — even when it gets uncomfortable.

Nice-to-Have

  • E-Commerce: Experience with Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta Ads, or Sendcloud
  • Agentur/Freelancing: Experience in agency-, freelancing-, or solo-builder-roles
  • Agentic Workflows: Experience with LangGraph, n8n, or own orchestration
  • Mannheim: Location Mannheim or Rhein-Neckar region
  • Side-Projects: Own tools, repos, or open-source contributions in the AI- or automation field

We don't expect: elite university, ten years of work experience, or perfect knowledge of every current framework.

Benefits

  • Maximaler Impact: You're our first tech team member and shape how we work, deliver, and grow.
  • Echte Kundenprojekte: You build systems that run daily at the customer's site, influence revenue, or save operational time.
  • Direkte Wege: No corporate layers, no politics. Good ideas get quickly implemented.
  • Hybrid: Mannheim is our home base
  • Tech-Lead-Perspektive: Long-term, you'll build the dev team and take technical leadership.
  • Beteiligung: No promises, but an open conversation if the collaboration works long-term.

We're a young agency in the growth phase. That means:

  • Unklarheit: Much is still undefined. If you need clear processes and tickets, we probably don't fit.
  • Verantwortung: When something goes wrong in production, you're on the line with Leon.
  • Priorisierung: Our customer list grows faster than our capacity. No-saying and prioritizing cleanly belong to it.
  • AI-Review: We build a lot with AI support. This saves time, but requires consistent reviewing.

If this sounds like an authentic building job: welcome.

If not: all good, no hard feelings.
